Research publication trends regarding the extraintestinal manifestations of celiac disease

open access: yesInformatics in Medicine Unlocked, 2019
Introduction: Celiac disease (CD) is an autoimmune enteropathy triggered by gluten that has a poor diagnosis rate and a range of extraintestinal manifestations (EIMs), which vary in prevalence. Increasing the rate of diagnosis of, and possibly developing

Microplastics from Wearable Bioelectronic Devices: Sources, Risks, and Sustainable Solutions

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Bioelectronic devices (e.g., e‐skins) heavily rely on polymers that at the end of their life cycle will generate microplastics. For research, a holistic approach to viewing the full impact of such devices cannot be overlooked. The potential for devices as sources for microplastics is raised, with mitigation strategies surrounding polysaccharide and ...

Differential diagnosis and long-term outcomes of non-atrophic duodenal changes in children

open access: yesFrontiers in Pediatrics, 2022
Objectives and studyGastrointestinal endoscopy is often performed when investigating abdominal complaints in children. While atrophic changes of the duodenal mucosa are usually caused by celiac disease, the prevalence and clinical significance of non ...

Celiac Disease

open access: yesAnnals of Internal Medicine, 2020
Gluten-related disorders, including celiac disease, wheat allergy, and nonceliac gluten sensitivity (NCGS), are increasingly reported worldwide. Celiac disease is caused by an immune-mediated reaction to ingested gluten in genetically susceptible persons. NCGS is largely a diagnosis of exclusion when other causes of symptoms have been ruled out.

CARD9 Conveys Pancreatic Islet Sympathetic Nervous β2 Signals to Reshape Macrophage Creatine Metabolism in Type 1 Diabetes

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study identifies CARD9 as a key mediator linking sympathetic β2‐adrenergic receptor signaling to macrophage creatine metabolism, inflammatory polarization, and neuronal integrity. Loss of β2‐AR‐PKA‐CREB1‐CARD9 signaling in macrophages reduces creatine uptake, promotes pro‐inflammatory macrophage activation, and drives sympathetic axon ferroptosis.

Progression of pediatric celiac disease from potential celiac disease to celiac disease: a retrospective cohort study

open access: yesBMC Pediatrics, 2021
Background A subset of patients with serology suggesting celiac disease have an initially negative biopsy but subsequently develop histopathologic celiac disease. Here we characterize patients with potential celiac disease who progress to celiac disease.
