Rhabdomyosarcoma debut masquerading as acute lymphoblastic leukemia: A case report and review of the literature

open access: yesClinical Case Reports, 2019
Bone marrow infiltration by alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma is uncommon, some cases can mimicry acute leukemia at presentation and mislead the diagnosis. The integration of diagnostics tests and techniques in uncommon malignancies is important to suspect and ...

Entosis: The emerging face of non-cell-autonomous type IV programmed death

open access: yesBiomedical Journal, 2017
The present review summarizes recent experimental evidences about the existence of the non-cell-autonomous death entosis in physiological and pathophysiological contexts, discusses some aspects of this form of cell death, including morphological ...

Volumetric Comparison of Overall Brain and Neuropil Size Between Social and Non‐social Spiders: Exploring the Social Brain Hypothesis

open access: yesIntegrative Zoology, EarlyView.
Brain size may be influenced by the cognitive demands of sociality (social brain hypothesis). We used microCT to compare CNS and brain volumes in social versus solitary huntsman and crab spiders. Social huntsman spiders had larger arcuate and mushroom bodies, while social crab spiders had larger visual neuropils.

Cell-in-Cell Phenomenon and Its Relationship With Tumor Microenvironment and Tumor Progression: A Review

open access: yesFrontiers in Cell and Developmental Biology, 2019
The term cell-in-cell, morphologically, refers to the presence of one cell within another. This phenomenon can occur in tumors but also among non-tumor cells.

Embryonic and larval development of the endangered Chiapas killifish Tlaloc hildebrandi (Cyprinodontiformes: Profundulidae)

open access: yesJournal of Fish Biology, EarlyView.
Abstract The early ontogeny of endemic freshwater fishes provides essential baseline biological information for conservation and management, particularly in species with restricted distributions and high vulnerability to habitat degradation, environmental change and population decline. This study presents the first detailed description of embryonic and

Entosis Is Induced by Glucose Starvation

open access: yesCell Reports, 2017
Entosis is a mechanism of cell death that involves neighbor cell ingestion. This process occurs in cancers and promotes a form of cell competition, where winner cells engulf and kill losers.

Immunonutritional Effects of Nucleotides and Olive Bioactive Extracts on Growth Performance and Survival of Pacific White Shrimp Upon Vibrio parahaemolyticus (AHPND) Challenge

open access: yesAquaculture, Fish and Fisheries, Volume 6, Issue 5, October 2026.
ABSTRACT The sustainable advancement of aquaculture can be supported using functional feed ingredients with immunomodulatory activity. These studies evaluated the immunonutritional effects of dietary nucleotides (NU) and an olive bioactive extract (OE) in Pacific white shrimp (PWS), Penaeus vannamei. A 56‑day growth trial (n = 1000 PWS; PL42‐43; 1.23 ±

Skeletal pathologies in extant crocodilians as a window into the paleopathology of fossil archosaurs

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, Volume 309, Issue 10, Page 2698-2724, October 2026.
Abstract Crocodilians, together with birds, are the only extant relatives to many extinct archosaur groups, making them highly important for interpreting paleopathological conditions in a phylogenetic disease bracketing model. Despite this, comprehensive data on osteopathologies in crocodilians remain scarce.

Metformin Attenuates Behavioral Deficits and Oxidative Stress in a Preclinical Model of Autism

open access: yesDevelopmental Neurobiology, Volume 86, Issue 4, October 2026.
ABSTRACT Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a complex neurodevelopmental condition lacking effective pharmacological treatments. Metformin has emerged as a candidate for drug repurposing in ASD due to its metabolic and neurobiological actions. This study evaluated the in vivo effects of metformin (400 mg/kg, orally) administered from postnatal day 21 to
