Autophagy and mitophagy in pancreatic β‐cell homeostasis and their involvement in diabetes pathophysiology

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This review focuses on the role of autophagy and mitophagy in maintaining pancreatic β‐cell function and homeostasis. We discuss how genetic defects affecting these pathways contribute to the development of type 1, type 2, monogenic, and gestational diabetes. We further explore their potential as therapeutic targets. Created in BioRender.

Assessment of Effectiveness of Geologic Isolation Systems SYSTEMS APPROXIMATE SIMULATOR: FISCAL YEAR 1982 PROGRESS [PDF]

open access: yes, 1982
The ISystemsl task of the Assessment of Effectiveness of Geologic Isolation Systems (AEGIS) Program is developing a Systems Approximate Simulator (SAS); a computer code of low-level technical complexity that incorporates the most significant waste ...

A modification of retrograde Langendorff‐perfusion to increase the yield of Ca2+-tolerant murine atrial cardiomyocytes isolated from remodelled, fibrotic atria

open access: yesFrontiers in Pharmacology
ObjectiveLangendorff-perfusion is an established method to isolate cardiomyocytes from cardiac tissue for the investigation of cellular remodelling in cardiovascular diseases.

Golgi enzymes are retrieved from the plasma membrane to the trans‐Golgi network

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Golgi enzymes are traditionally considered resident proteins retained within the Golgi apparatus. Here, we demonstrate that a subset transiently reaches the cell surface and is subsequently retrieved to the trans‐Golgi network via retrograde transport. Using a nanobody‐based toolkit, we uncover a dynamic trafficking cycle of several Golgi enzymes.

Circular DNA's from HeLa cell nuclei and mitochondria [PDF]

open access: yes, 1970
An electron microscopic observation was made on the DNA's extracted from purified HeLa cell nuclei, mitochondria, and the whole cell, and fractionated by ethidium bromide-cesium chloride density gradient method or sucrose density gradient method. Nuclear

Cardiac cell identification and isolation

open access: yes, 2015
Identification and isolation of cardiomyocytes from the heart, embryonic stem cells, or induced pluripotent stem cells is a challenging task and will require specific isolation techniques.

Partial depletion of plasminogen activator inhibitor‐1 decreases subcutaneous fat cell hypertrophy and liver cholesterol in high‐fat‐fed female mice

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Obesity raises blood levels of PAI‐1, a protein linked to metabolic dysfunction‐associated steatotic liver disease in people with obesity. In female mice fed a high‐fat diet, partially lowering PAI‐1 led to smaller subcutaneous fat cells and lower liver cholesterol, without changing body weight or insulin sensitivity.

Reproducibility and Consistency of Isolation Protocols for Fibroblasts, Smooth Muscle Cells, and Epithelial Cells from the Human Vagina

open access: yesCells
(1) Background: For the reconstruction of a human vagina, various surgical procedures are available that are often associated with complications due to their failure to mimic the physiology of the human vagina. We recently developed a vascularized, organ-

Ligand‐dependent transcriptional heterogeneity in cell cycle gene expression delays G1/S entry

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
EGF and HRG induce distinct G1/S progression programs in ErbB2‐amplified BT474 breast cancer cells. Despite activating the potent ErbB2–ErbB3 heterodimer, HRG does not accelerate cell‐cycle entry. Instead, EGF promotes earlier restriction‐point passage via ERK–FOS signaling, whereas HRG activates the AKT–MYC axis, driving transcriptional heterogeneity ...

Cell Migration with Multiple Pseudopodia: Temporal and Spatial Sensing Models [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Cell migration triggered by pseudopodia (or “false feet”) is the most used method of locomotion. A 3D finite element model of a cell migrating over a 2D substrate is proposed, with a particular focus on the mechanical aspects of the biological phenomenon.
