Isolation of Subsets of Immune Cells

2005
Subsets of immune cells can be isolated before analysis by the enzyme-linked immunospot (ELISPOT) assay with various cell separation techniques. This chapter describes techniques to select desired cells or deplete unwanted cells by crosslinking cells to dense or magnetic particles for subsequent separation.

Isolation of Liver Kupffer Cells

Current Protocols in Toxicology, 2002
AbstractIsolation of Liver Kupffer Cells (Matthias Froh, Akira Konno, Ronald G. Thurman, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Chapel Hill, North Carolina). Kupffer cells, the resident macrophages of the liver, play a major role in the pathogenesis of several diseases.

Isolation of Circulating Angiogenic Cells

2012
Endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs) were first identified by Ashara et al. in 1997 (Asahara et al. Science 275:964-967, 1997) and were thought to contribute to angiogenesis and vasculogenesis. Since their discovery, circulating levels of EPCs were found to serve as biomarkers as low levels correlate with increased cardiovascular events and death from ...

Cell Line Isolation and Design

2011
Biotechnology and genetic engineering have facilitated a new generation of biology-based therapeutic agents known broadly as biopharmaceuticals. Many of these agents address otherwise untreatable diseases, and now represent a worldwide market of over US$100 billion per year.

Isolation of Cutaneous Dendritic Cells

2009
Cutaneous dendritic cells represent the first immunological interface with the environment and play a key role in the defense against pathogens that breach the skin. This protocol describes how to isolate cutaneous dendritic cells from mouse ears for flow cytometry analysis and functional assay studies.

Detection and isolation of rare cells

Current Opinion in Immunology, 1995
Cells of biomedical interest are often present in very small numbers (i.e. they are rare), despite their functional significance. The analysis and isolation of previously inaccessible rare cells, such as peripheral hematopoietic stem cells, fetal cells in maternal blood, residual tumor cells or antigen-specific lymphocytes, has now become feasible ...

Isolation and Enrichment of Stem Cells

2009
Stem cells have the potential to revolutionize tissue regeneration and engineering. Both general types of stem cells, those with pluripotent differentiation potential as well as those with multipotent differentiation potential, are of equal interest. They are important tools to further understanding of general cellular processes, to refine industrial ...

Hydroxylation in isolated liver cells

Bulletin of Experimental Biology and Medicine, 1975
Ethylenediamine tetraacetate and mechanical treatment were applied to obtain the isolated hepatocytes. Oxidative phosphorylation was found to be preserved in the isolated cells. Hepatocytes were capable of hydroxylation of dimethylaniline (DMA), ethylmorphine and aminopyrine.

ISOLATION OF EPIDERMAL LANGERHANS CELLS

International Journal of Immunogenetics, 1989
SUMMARYLangerhans cells (LC) play an important role in the skin immune system. They are bone marrow‐derived and function as the only accessory and antigen‐presenting cells in the skin. Several techniques for enriching these cells have been devised, and four, including density gradient centrifugation, use of cell sorter, panning and immunomagnetic ...
