Cellular automata and dynamical systems [PDF]

open access: yes
In this thesis we investigate the theoretical nature of the mathematical structures termed cellular automata. Chapter 1: Reviews the origin and history of cellular automata in order to place the current work into context.

PAK1 activation drives divergent resistance mechanisms to aromatase inhibition and tamoxifen in a luminal: A breast cancer model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Breast cancer remains a major cause of cancer death in women, frequently developing endocrine therapy resistance. This study demonstrates that upregulated p21‐activated kinase 1 (PAK1) activity drives resistance to tamoxifen and long‐term estrogen deprivation in ER+ breast cancer models.

Reverse-Link Performance of Synchronous Cellular DS-CDMA Networks in Dispersive Rician Multipath Fading Channels

open access: yes, 2004
In this paper, the reverse-link performance of synchronous DS-CDMA cellular networks is investigated in Rician multipath fading environments. The system’s performance is evaluated in terms of the achievable average bit error rate (BER) and the user ...

In vitro and in silico modelling of ROS1‐positive non‐small cell lung cancer reveals fusion‐dependent tyrosine kinase inhibitor responses

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Drug resistance limits treatment success in a subset of lung cancers driven by ROS1 gene alterations. Using patient‐derived cells and computer simulations, we studied three key mutations and how they affect five targeted drugs. The mutations reduced drug effectiveness in different ways by altering protein structure and behavior.

Evolving gene regulatory networks for cellular morphogenesis

open access: yes, 2005
The generation of pattern and form in a developing organism results from a combination of interacting processes, guided by a programme en- coded in its genome.
