Giant-Ceil Centrioles

Science, 1967
The giant cell of osteoclastic origin and the giant cell produced in response to foreign bodies are characterized by multiple nuclei. Electron microscopy of these multinucleated cells reveals a special centrosphere in the osteoclast, which is not typical of other types of giant cells.

Centrioles and Microtubules in Chlorella

Nature New Biology, 1971
IN keeping with its widespread use in biochemical studies, the ultrastructure of the unicellular green alga Chlorella has been investigated many times1–3, yet at least two components—microtubules and centrioles—have escaped detection, doubtless because of the use of inadequate fixation techniques.

Centriole, Differentiation, and Senescence

Rejuvenation Research, 2010
Irreversible differentiation (change of morphogenetic status) and programmed death (apoptosis) are observed only in somatic cells, and cell division is the only way by which the morphogenetic status of the offspring cells may be modified. It is known that there is a fixed limit to the number of possible cell divisions, the so-called Hayflick limit ...

Centriole amplification by mother and daughter centrioles differs in multiciliated cells

Nature, 2014
The semi-conservative centrosome duplication in cycling cells gives rise to a centrosome composed of a mother and a newly formed daughter centriole. Both centrioles are regarded as equivalent in their ability to form new centrioles and their symmetric duplication is crucial for cell division homeostasis.

Formins, Golgi, and the Centriole

2019
Formin homology proteins (formins) are a highly conserved family of cytoskeletal remodeling proteins that are involved in a diverse array of cellular functions. Formins are best known for their ability to regulate actin dynamics, but the same functional domains also govern stability and organization of microtubules.
