Hypoxia-Associated Changes in Striatal Tonic Dopamine Release: Real-Time in vivo Measurements With a Novel Voltammetry Technique

open access: yesFrontiers in Neuroscience, 2020
Introduction Striatal tonic dopamine increases rapidly during global cerebral hypoxia. This phenomenon has previously been studied using microdialysis techniques which have relatively poor spatio-temporal resolution. In this study, we measured changes in

The effects of levosimendan on brain metabolism during initial recovery from global transient ischaemia/hypoxia

open access: yesBMC Neurology, 2012
Backround Neuroprotective strategies after cardiopulmonary resuscitation are currently the focus of experimental and clinical research. Levosimendan has been proposed as a promising drug candidate because of its cardioprotective properties, improved ...

Cerebral microdialysis as a diagnostic tool in acute brain injury

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Anaesthesiology, 1996
In the past 10 years, the management of brain injury has shown several advances. Besides new diagnostic tools many new tentative approaches have been investigated, such as jugular bulb measurement of oxygen and lactate differences and near-infrared spectroscopy. The latest tool is microdialysis, which uses a probe as an interface to the brain.

Targeting the noradrenergic‐metabolic axis: A new strategy for sugar‐induced depression subtypes

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, Volume 183, Issue 9, Page 2099-2122, May 2026.
Abstract Background and Purpose Lifestyle is closely related to major depressive disorder (MDD). Given the growing focus on the impact of diet on mental health, this study examined how dietary habits affect the pathophysiology of MDD. Experimental Approach Health check‐up data were analysed. Mice received sucrose under chronic unpredictable mild stress

Boron‐Doped Nano‐Crystalline Coated Carbon Fibers for Phasic Dopamine Sensing

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, Volume 15, Issue 15, 17 April 2026.
This uniform coating presents a mix of graphitic and diamond‐like carbon to create a mechanically and electrically robust alternative for the electrochemical detection of dopamine. The electrodes in this work possess the equivalent sensitivity to the state‐of‐the‐art FSCV dopamine detecting electrodes, whilst demonstrating an ability to withstand ...

Midbrain PAG Astrocytes Modulate Mouse Defensive and Panic‐Like Behaviors

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 19, 2 April 2026.
Astrocytes in the midbrain periaqueductal gray (PAG) dynamically encode threat intensity and shape defensive action selection in mice. Real‐time Ca2+ imaging reveals robust astrocytic activation during predator odor and CO2 exposure. Aberrant astrocytic Ca2+ overactivation disrupts goal‐directed escape, biases behavior toward freezing, and induces ...

Occurrence of vasospasm and infarction in relation to a focal monitoring sensor in patients after SAH: placing a bet when placing a probe? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Introduction: Vasospastic brain infarction is a devastating complication of aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH). Using a probe for invasive monitoring of brain tissue oxygenation or blood flow is highly focal and may miss the site of cerebral ...

Human Brain Contusions Contain Pathogenic Transmissible Species that Induce Progressive Cognitive Decline and Tau Pathology in Mice

open access: yesAnnals of Neurology, Volume 99, Issue 4, Page 897-911, April 2026.
Objective Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is an established risk factor for dementia, although the underlying mechanisms remain unclear. Our previous research demonstrated that a single severe TBI in wild‐type (WT) mice induces a prion‐like form of tau (tauTBI) that spreads throughout the brain, leading to memory deficits.

CNS Penetration of Cyclophosphamide and Metabolites in Mice Bearing Group 3 Medulloblastoma and Non-Tumor Bearing Mice

open access: yesJournal of Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences, 2019
PURPOSE: Cyclophosphamide is widely used to treat children with medulloblastoma; however, little is known about its brain penetration. We performed cerebral microdialysis to characterize the brain penetration of cyclophosphamide (130 mg/kg, IP) and its ...
