Impact of Frailty on the Prognosis of Patients With Liver Cirrhosis Undergoing Insertion of a TIPS

open access: yesAlimentary Pharmacology &Therapeutics, EarlyView.
In patients with cirrhosis undergoing TIPS, frailty—measured by the Liver Frailty Index—improved in those with poor baseline status; therefore, high frailty should not be seen as a contraindication to elective TIPS. Additionally, LFI assessment before TIPS enables identification of patients with excellent survival prognosis.

Midostaurin in daily clinical practice of patients with advanced systemic mastocytosis

open access: yesBritish Journal of Haematology, EarlyView.
Durable responses based on modified Valent, IWG‐MRT‐ECNM and PPR criteria were predominantly dose‐independent, making dose adjustments due to better tolerability more practicable in daily routine. Gradual tapering of midostaurin, prophylactic treatment with antihistamines and corticosteroids and timely initiation of subsequent therapy can prevent a ...

Assay for heavy metals using an inhibitive assay based on the acetylcholinesterase from Clarias batrachus [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Acetylcholinesterase (AChE) is usually used as an inhibitive assay for insecticides. A lesser-known property of AChE is its inhibition by heavy metals.

Pharmacological evaluation of non‐nucleotide purine derivatives as P2X7 antagonists for the treatment of neuroinflammation in traumatic brain injury

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Background and purpose Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is considered to be a leading cause of mortality and disability worldwide. After TBI, innate immunity is rapidly activated in response to damage‐associated molecular patterns, such as ATP release, recognised by P2X7 receptors.

Solving the binding problem: cellular adhesive molecules and their control of the cortical quantum entangled network [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
Quantum entanglement is shown to be the only acceptable physical solution to the binding problem. The biological basis of interneuronal entanglement is described in the frames of the beta-neurexin-neuroligin model developed by Georgiev (2002) and is ...

Synthetic microneurotrophins: Neurotrophin receptors for therapeutics of neurodegenerative diseases

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Neurodegenerative disorders are characterised by the chronic progressive degeneration of specific neuronal subtypes, neuroinflammation, myelin damage and synaptic loss. Despite their growing incidence, advancements in effective treatments remain limited, because of lack of knowledge for the aetiology of the diverse pathophysiology to design systematic ...

Structure-activity correlations for organophosphorus ester anticholinesterases. Part 2: CNDO/2 calculations applied to ester hydrolysis rates [PDF]

open access: yes
Quantitative structure-activity relationships are presented for the hydrolysis of organophosphorus esters, RR'P(O)X, where R and R' are alkyl and/or alkoxy groups and X is fluorine, chlorine or a phenoxy group.
