Zebrafish Tgds, when expressed as a recombinant protein, catalyzes the dehydration of UDP‐D‐glucose, the initial step in the formation of 6‐deoxyhexoses. Corresponding Tgds mutations found in Catel–Manzke syndrome patients lead to reduced enzymatic activity and stability.

Human Proteoglycan Linkage Region Glycosyltransferases are Dimeric and Show Unexpected Specificities
Non‐canonical glycopeptides of the proteoglycan linkage region are accessible by the enzymes B3GalT6 and GlcAT‐1 confirming a recently discovered rescue mode in glycosaminoglycan (GAG) biosynthesis. The crystal structure of B3GalT6 revealed a covalent dimer linked by a disulfide. Abstract We selected the N,O‐glycosylated proteoglycan bikunin as a model

The extracellular matrix plays a critical role in modulating cell behaviour in the central nervous system influencing neural cell morphology and growth. However, a better understanding of the impact of individual matrix proteins on both neurons and astrocytes is critical for advancing the development of matrix‐based neural repair strategies.

Sulodexide. Nephroprotective properties and horizons for use in nephrology
Sulodexide belongs to the class of glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) or mucopolysaccharides. Found in mammalian tissuesm, GAGs regulate the activity of a wide range of proteins (including chemokines, cytokines, growth factors, enzymes, morphogens, and adhesion ...

Collagen organisation in the fibrous joint capsules in the digits of the human hand
The function of the finger joints is important for daily life. In this review of the literature, we consider the role of collagen and its organization within the fibrous finger joint capsules of the interphalangeal (IP) joints and investigate the relationships between collagen orientation and joint function. Abstract Normal function of the hand and, in

Transforming growth factor-b regulation of proteoglycan synthesis in vascular smooth muscle: Contribution to lipid binding and accelerated atherosclerosis in diabetes [PDF]
Atherosclerosis is accelerated in the setting of diabetes, but the factors driving this phenomenon remain elusive. Hyperglycemia leads to elevated levels of transforming growth factor (TGF)-b and TGF-b has been implicated as a factor in atherosclerosis ...
