Extracellular Vesicles and Citrullinated Histone H3 in Coronavirus Disease 2019 Patients
Thrombosis and Haemostasis, 2021AbstractObjectives Pulmonary thrombus formation is a hallmark of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). A dysregulated immune response culminating in thromboinflammation has been described, but the pathomechanisms remain unclear. Methods We studied 41 adult COVID-19 patients with positive results on reverse-transcriptase polymerase-chain-reaction assays ...

Methods for Analyzing Histone Citrullination in Chromatin Structure and Gene Regulation
2011Histone posttranslational modifications play significant roles in regulating chromatin structure and gene expression. One of the histone modifications, histone citrullination, is catalyzed by an enzyme called peptidylarginine deiminase 4 (PAD4, also called PADI4), which converts both histone arginine (Arg) and mono-methyl arginine residues to ...

Citrullinated histone H3 is increased in blood of asthma subjects
Allergy and immunology, 2019Histone H3 is citrullinated in the process of epigenetic chromatin remodelling and neutrophil extracellular trap (NET) formation. In 76 adult asthmatics and 54 well-matched controls we measured circulating level of citrullinated histone H3 (CitH3) using Cayman ELISA kit.

Protein citrullination, a once-obscure post-translational modification (PTM) of peptidylarginine, has recently become an area of significant interest because of its suspected role in human disease states, including rheumatoid arthritis and multiple sclerosis, and also because of its newfound role in gene regulation.

NET-associated citrullinated histones promote LDL aggregation and foam cell formation in vitro
Experimental Cell Research, 2020Neutrophils have been recently identified in the atherosclerotic lesion and they can release neutrophil extracellular trap (NET) under the pro-inflammatory conditions prevailing in the lesion. Citrullinated histones (Cit-histones) are the major type of citrullinated proteins associated with NET release.
