Anticancer activity of the iron facilitator LS081 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Background Cancer cells have increased levels of transferrin receptor and lower levels of ferritin, an iron deficient phenotype that has led to the use of iron chelators to further deplete cells of iron and limit cancer cell growth.

The Chemistry of Anticancer Mononuclear and N‐Bridged Dinuclear 8‐Aminoquinoline Half‐sandwich Metal Complexes

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, Volume 31, Issue 23, April 22, 2025.
8‐Aminoquinoline half‐sandwich metal chlorido complexes were found to undergo conversion into dimetallic analogues under basic conditions and/or by the addition of AgNO3 to abstract the chlorido ligand. In in vitro anticancer activity studies, the dimetallic complexes were found to be in general more potent than the mononuclear analogues which can be ...

ATG16L1 restrains macrophage NLRP3 activation and alveolar epithelial cell injury during septic lung injury

open access: yesClinical and Translational Medicine, Volume 15, Issue 4, April 2025.
ATG16L1‐deficient macrophages exhibited impaired LC3B lipidation and accumulation of ROS, resulting in the activation of the NLRP3 inflammasome. Overactivated ATG16L1‐deficient macrophages aggravated the damage of alveolar epithelial cells, and increased the release of dsDNA.

A Novel Targeted and High‐Efficiency Nanosystem for Combinational Therapy for Alzheimer's Disease

open access: yesAdvanced Science, 2020
Alzheimer's disease (AD) remains the most prevalent neurodegenerative disease, and no effective treatment is available yet. Metal‐ion‐triggered aggregates of amyloid‐beta (Aβ) peptide and acetylcholine imbalance are reported to be possible factors in AD ...

Iron and Alzheimer’s Disease: From Pathogenesis to Therapeutic Implications

open access: yesFrontiers in Neuroscience, 2018
As people age, iron deposits in different areas of the brain may impair normal cognitive function and behavior. Abnormal iron metabolism generates hydroxyl radicals through the Fenton reaction, triggers oxidative stress reactions, damages cell lipids ...
