Quantitative Modelling of Biohydrogen Production from Indian Agricultural Residues via Dark Fermentation

open access: yesChemistryOpen, Volume 14, Issue 5, May 2025.
This study employs quantitative modelling to assess India's biohydrogen (BioH2) potential from crop residues, revealing a 191 % production boost with pretreatment, reaching ~300 PJ annually. Key surplus‐producing states are identified, highlighting BioH2’s role in energy security and fossil fuel reduction.

Identification and structural characterization of a novel acetyl xylan esterase from Aspergillus oryzae

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, Volume 292, Issue 10, Page 2527-2544, May 2025.
A novel acetyl xylan esterase was discovered from Aspergillus oryzae. The deacetylase activity toward wheat arabinoxylan increased synergistically with xylanase addition. The crystal structure exhibited hybrid features between two α/β‐hydrolase families, highlighting its structural uniqueness.

The Cellulosome Paradigm in An Extreme Alkaline Environment

open access: yesMicroorganisms, 2019
Rapid decomposition of plant biomass in soda lakes is associated with microbial activity of anaerobic cellulose-degrading communities. The alkaliphilic bacterium, Clostridium alkalicellulosi, is the single known isolate from a soda lake that demonstrates

Designer Glycolysomes: Colocalisation of Glycolytic Enzymes on a Cellulosome‐Based Synthetic Protein Scaffold

open access: yesMicrobial Biotechnology, Volume 18, Issue 4, April 2025.
The first three Escherichia coli glycolytic enzymes were converted to the docking enzyme mode and subsequently scaffolded. Increasing copies of the rate‐limiting enzyme boosted the overall performance. At lower enzyme densities, the proximity effects provided by scaffold‐colocalisation result in a higher product yield compared to free docking enzymes ...

Subcellulosome preparation with high cellulase activity from Clostridium thermocellum [PDF]

open access: yesApplied and Environmental Microbiology, 1990
We have prepared a much simpler cellulase preparation than that of cellulosomes from the extracellular broth of Clostridium thermocellum. This "subcellulosome" preparation from C. thermocellum was obtained by column chromatography on CM-Bio-Gel A and then on a lectin-affinity material (Jacalin).

Magnetizing Biotech–Advances in (In Vivo) Magnetic Enzyme Immobilization

open access: yesEngineering in Life Sciences, Volume 25, Issue 3, March 2025.
ABSTRACT Industrial biocatalysis, a multibillion dollar industry, relies on the selectivity and efficacy of enzymes for efficient chemical transformations. However, enzymes, evolutionary adapted to mild biological conditions, often struggle in industrial processes that require harsh reaction conditions, resulting in reduced stability and activity ...
