ProtTrans: Towards Cracking the Language of Life's Code Through Self-Supervised Deep Learning and High Performance Computing [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
Computational biology and bioinformatics provide vast data gold-mines from protein sequences, ideal for Language Models taken from NLP. These LMs reach for new prediction frontiers at low inference costs. Here, we trained two auto-regressive models (Transformer-XL, XLNet) and four auto-encoder models (BERT, Albert, Electra, T5) on data from UniRef and ...

The impact of coenzyme Q10 on metabolic and cardiovascular disease profiles in diabetic patients: A systematic review and meta‐analysis of randomized controlled trials

open access: yesEndocrinology, Diabetes & Metabolism, 2020
Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) is well known for its beneficial effects in cardiovascular disease (CVD); however, reported evidence has not been precisely synthesized to better inform on its impact in protecting against cardiovascular‐related complications in ...

Regional outbreak of parvovirus B19 acute myocarditis in preschool children

open access: yesPediatric Investigation, EarlyView.
We recently came across an outbreak of parvovirus B19 related acute myocarditis in preschool children in a specific region in northern Greece. The children exhibited serious morbidity and mortality. All children had very poor left ventricular ejection fraction and required inotropic intensive care unit support.

Coenzyme q10 is potentially usedto improve lipid profile in diabetic hypercholesterolemia-induced periodontitis in the coastal area

open access: yesE3S Web of Conferences, 2018
Contaminated water often affects the occurrence of periodontitis in the coastal area. The diabetic hypercholesterolemia-induced periodontitis in Indonesia is very high.

Development of Carbon-Fiber Electrodes Modified for Electrochemical ATP Detection [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2018
Adenosine triphosphate (ATP) is a highly energetic molecule used as a coenzyme in the transfer of chemical energy required for the continuation of cellular metabolism. In addition, extracellular ATP has an important role in cell-to-cell communication in immune, nervous and vascular systems.

Silymarin in Combination with Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Coenzyme Q10 and Selenomethionine to Improve Liver Enzymes and Blood Lipid Profile in NAFLD Patients

open access: yesMedicina, 2020
Background and Objectives: Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD) is an emerging cause of hepatopathy that is showing an increasing trend and where the recommendations of lifestyle modification are often not sufficient.

Salidroside Improves Oocyte Competence of Reproductively Old Mice by Enhancing Mitophagy

open access: yesAging Cell, EarlyView.
Salidroside improves oocyte competence by enhancing mitophagy. Aging impairs mitophagy in oocytes, which leads to mitochondrial dysfunction. Salidroside restores mitochondrial homeostasis, reduces ROS levels, and improves oocyte developmental competence.

Longevity Humans Have Youthful Erythrocyte Function and Metabolic Signatures

open access: yesAging Cell, EarlyView.
Longevity humans have “a youthful erythrocyte function and metabolism” with a youth‐like oxygen release and anti‐oxidative capability to combat tissue hypoxia and improve healthspan. ABSTRACT Longevity individuals have lower susceptibility to chronic hypoxia, inflammation, oxidative stress, and aging‐related diseases.

Role of mitochondria in neuronal cell death induced by oxidative stress; neuroprotection by Coenzyme Q10

open access: yesNeurobiology of Disease, 2005
Neuronal cells depend on mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation for most of their energy needs and therefore are at a particular risk for oxidative stress.

Effects of Oral, Vaginal, and Transdermal Hormonal Contraception on Serum Levels of Coenzyme Q10, Vitamin E, and Total Antioxidant Activity

open access: yesObstetrics and Gynecology International, 2010
The use of the transdermal contraceptive patch is associated with greater bioavailability of ethinyl estradiol (EE) compared with contraceptive vaginal ring or oral contraceptives (OC).
