Pharmaceutical Binary and Ternary Complexes of Gemcitabine with Aluminum Metal–Organic Framework: Mechano-Chemical Encapsulation, Delayed Drug Release, and Toxicity to Pancreatic Cells

open access: yesPharmaceutics
Background: gemcitabine is a cytidine analog and major anticancer drug functioning as an antimetabolite. However, its administration by systemic route is accompanied by “burst” and side effects.

Quantitative Comparison of Protein Surface Coverage on Glass Slides and Silver Island Films in Metal-Enhanced Fluorescence-based Biosensing Applications

open access: yesNano Biomedicine and Engineering, 2010
The use of Metal-Enhanced Fluorescence (MEF) phenomenon in fluorescence-based bioassays affords for increased sensitivity to be realized by incorporating metal nanoparticles onto planar surfaces.

Hot Chemistry with Cold Molecules

open access: yes, 2010
Control of chemical reactions that focuses on the selective cleavage or on the formation of chemical bonds in a polyatomic molecule is a long-sought-after goal for chemists. Attempts have been made since the early days of lasers (1960) to make this dream come true (Rousseau, 1966).

An Investigation of the Kinetics and Equilibrium Chemistry of Cold-Brew Coffee: Caffeine and Chlorogenic Acid Concentrations as a Function of Roasting Temperature and Grind Size [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
: Recently, both small and large commercial coffee brewers have begun offering cold-brew coffee drinks to customers with the claims that these cold-water extracts contain fewer bitter acids due to brewing conditions (Toddy website, 2016) while still ...

EDNRB‐dependent endothelin signaling reduces proliferation and promotes proneural‐to‐mesenchymal transition in gliomas

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Glioma cells mainly express the endothelin receptor EDNRB, while EDNRA is restricted to a perivascular tumor subpopulation. Endothelin signaling reduces glioma cell proliferation while promoting migration and a proneural‐to‐mesenchymal transition associated with poor prognosis. This pathway activates Ca2+, K+, ERK, and STAT3 signalings and is regulated

IMPDH inhibition enhances cytarabine efficacy in SAMHD1‐expressing leukaemia cells via guanine nucleotide depletion

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cytarabine is a key therapy for acute myeloid leukaemia (AML), but its efficacy is limited by the dNTPase SAMHD1, which hydrolyses its active metabolite. Screening nucleotide biosynthesis inhibitors revealed that IMPDH inhibitors selectively sensitise SAMHD1‐proficient AML cells to cytarabine.

TP53 exon-6 truncating mutations produce separation of function isoforms with pro-tumorigenic functions

open access: yeseLife, 2016
TP53 truncating mutations are common in human tumors and are thought to give rise to p53-null alleles. Here, we show that TP53 exon-6 truncating mutations occur at higher than expected frequencies and produce proteins that lack canonical p53 tumor ...

The Chemical and Dynamical Evolution of Isolated Dwarf Galaxies

open access: yes, 2011
Using a suite of simulations (Governato et al. 2010) which successfully produce bulgeless (dwarf) disk galaxies, we provide an analysis of their associated cold interstellar media (ISM) and stellar chemical abundance patterns.

Deciphering transcriptional plasticity in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma reveals alterations in sensory neuron innervation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pancreatic sensory neurons innervating healthy and PDAC tissue were retrogradely labeled and profiled by single‐cell RNA sequencing. Tumor‐associated innervation showed a dominant neurofilament‐positive subtype, altered mitochondrial gene signatures, and reduced non‐peptidergic neurons.

Encapsulation of Gemcitabine on Porphyrin Aluminum Metal-Organic Framework by Mechano-Chemistry, Delayed Drug Release and Cytotoxicity to Pancreatic Cancer PANC-1 Cells

open access: yesMolecules
Gemcitabine is a widely used antimetabolite drug of pyrimidine structure, which can exist as a free-base molecular form (Gem). The encapsulated forms of medicinal drugs are of interest for delayed and local drug release.
