CLEC18A interacts with sulfated glycosaminoglycans and controls clear cell renal cell carcinoma progression

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, Volume 293, Issue 3, Page 709-728, February 2026.
CLEC18A is a previously poorly characterized C‐type lectin. We mapped the expression of CLEC18A to the proximal tubule of the kidney and found CLEC18A to interact with sulfated glycosaminoglycans on proteoglycans. Furthermore, we found that CLEC18A plays an important role in hindering the progression of clear cell renal cell carcinomas in humans and in

The Third Dimension of Reading the Sugar Code by Lectins [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Coding of biological information is not confined to nucleic acids and proteins. Endowed with the highest level of structural versatility among biomolecules, the glycan chains of cellular glycoconjugates are well-suited to generate molecular messages ...

Mathematical modeling predicts novel mechanisms of stream confinement from Trail/Colec12/Dan in the collective migration of cranial neural crest cells

open access: yesDevelopmental Dynamics, Volume 255, Issue 1, Page 43-65, January 2026.
Abstract Background In vertebrate embryogenesis, cranial neural crest cells (CNCCs) migrate along discrete pathways. Analyses in the chick have identified key molecular candidates for the confinement of CNCC migration to stereotypical pathways as Colec12, Trail, and Dan.

Proteomic Biomarkers Are Linked to QTc Interval in Patients With Chronic Heart Failure

open access: yesPROTEOMICS – Clinical Applications, Volume 20, Issue 1, January 2026.
ABSTRACT Objective This study investigates the link between circulating proteins and rate‐corrected QT (QTc) interval in patients with heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) and their association with cardiovascular outcomes. Methods and Results We analyzed 197 HFrEF patients from the prospective Serial Biomarker Measurements and New ...

Molecular basis of sugar recognition by collectin-K1 and the effects of mutations associated with 3MC syndrome [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Background Collectin-K1 (CL-K1, or CL-11) is a multifunctional Ca2+-dependent lectin with roles in innate immunity, apoptosis and embryogenesis. It binds to carbohydrates on pathogens to activate the lectin pathway of complement and together with its ...

Multi‐omics analysis of gut‐organ axes reveals the high‐altitude adaptation in Tibetan chicken

open access: yesiMetaOmics, Volume 2, Issue 3, September 2025.
The Qinghai‐Tibet Plateau is an extreme ecosystem subject to special climatic conditions that require unique adaptations for its inhabiting organisms. In addition to genetic characteristics, the gut microbiota of animals can regulate the environmental adaptation of their hosts through various gut–organ axes.

Structural Characterization of Bovine Collectin‐43 [PDF]

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Biochemistry, 1997
Bovine collectin‐43 (CL‐43), the most recently disclosed member of the collectin group, has been characterized structurally at the protein level by a combination of mass spectrometry and protein sequencing. The molecular mass of reduced CL‐43 was determined by the use of mass spectrometry to be 33.6±0.1 kDa.

Organic barn dust inhibits surfactant protein D production through protein kinase-c alpha dependent increase of GPR116.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2018
Prolonged exposure to organic barn dusts can lead to chronic inflammation and a broad range of lung problems over time, mediated by innate immune mechanisms.
