Collision avoidance in satellite clusters
Proceedings of the 2002 American Control Conference (IEEE Cat. No.CH37301), 2002A collision avoidance methodology for satellite clusters is developed and simulated. A set membership algorithm is used to monitor and predict guaranteed position uncertainty ellipsoids over time. Distances between ellipsoids can be calculated on-line in order to evaluate when and how fast a collision may occur.

Formation control with collision avoidance
IEEE Conference on Decision and Control and European Control Conference, 2011We present a formation flight control strategy featuring a collision avoidance scheme. The control algorithm is based on a Sliding Mode controller. The controller sliding surfaces account for aircraft maneuvering limitations, restricting the required velocities to a feasible set.

Collision avoidance passive sonar
Proceedings of the Eighth ACM International Conference on Underwater Networks and Systems - WUWNet '13, 2013Modems for underwater acoustic communications (acomms) have become nearly as much of a commodity technology as underwater releases or transponder systems. Modems today are at a similar stage as were mobile phones perhaps 15 years ago -- basic communications devices.

Distributed reactive collision avoidance
Autonomous Robots, 2012The work contained in this paper concerns a novel approach to the n-vehicle collision avoidance problem. The vehicle model used here allows for three-dimensional movement and represents a wide range of vehicles. The algorithm works in conjunction with any desired controller to guarantee all vehicles remain free of collisions while attempting to follow ...

Generalized reciprocal collision avoidance
The International Journal of Robotics Research, 2015Reciprocal collision avoidance has become a popular area of research over recent years. Approaches have been developed for a variety of dynamic systems ranging from single integrators to car-like, differential-drive, and arbitrary, linear equations of motion. In this paper, we present two contributions. First, we provide a unification of these previous

Collision avoidance for nonrigid objects
Zeitschrift für Operations Research, 1988The path existence problem and the collision detection problem for time-varying objects in a geometric scene are discussed. For a large class of spherical nonrigid objects, exact solutions of the path existence problem are developed based on decomposition techniques and graph traversal.

Collision Avoidance Trajectory for an Ekranoplan
AIAA Atmospheric Flight Mechanics Conference, 2009The risk of collision is one of the crucial aspects for the applications of Ekranoplans in civil transportation. In fact, the extremely low flight altitude of these aircraft increases dramatically the chances of interference between their flight path and the multitude of obstacles populating the surrounding area.

Collision-Avoidance Characteristics of Grasping
2009Grasping an object successfully implies avoiding colliding into it before the hand is closed around the object. The present study focuses on prehension kinematics that typically reflect collision-avoidance characteristics of grasping movements. Twelve participants repeatedly grasped vertically-oriented cylinders of various heights, starting from two ...
