Biomass‐Coupled HER System: A Strategy for Sustainable and Low‐Cost Hydrogen Production

open access: yesCarbon Energy, EarlyView.
Pine wood is carbonized into a hierarchically porous biochar anode that undergoes carbon oxidation reaction, replacing the oxygen evolution reaction in alkaline water electrolysis. The resulting biomass‐coupled HER system converts water into hydrogen at low cell voltages, enabling low‐cost H2 production from renewable carbon resources. ABSTRACT Biomass‐

Beyond Activity: The Unified Framework of the Sabatier Principle to Guide Rational Design of Durable and Active Electrocatalysts

open access: yesCarbon Energy, EarlyView.
In this review, a unified framework of the Sabatier principle is applied to a diverse range of catalytic and electrocatalytic systems for advanced clean energy technologies, with a particular focus on the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR). This approach will guide the design and development of highly active and stable catalysts for fuel cells ...

Photochemistry of Aromatic N‐Oxides in Water Probed by Time‐Resolved X‐ray Absorption Spectroscopy

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, EarlyView.
Time‐resolved XAS at the nitrogen and oxygen K‐edges is applied to the photorearrangement of two N‐oxides in water. Pyridine N‐oxide rapidly forms the oxaziridine isomer. Pyridazine N‐oxide undergoes ring opening to the diazo compound, without any evidence of intermediates.

Avoiding Collisions in Flocks

IEEE Transactions on Automatic Control, 2010
Among the many models for flocking systems of interacting particles, the one introduced by Cucker and Smale has attracted attention due to the fact that a convergence to flocking (i.e., to a common velocity) could be established depending on conditions on the initial state of the system.

Vehicle Collision Avoidance

2020
Road accidents are considered as one of the major reasons of deaths. The proposed vehicle collision avoidance system aims to increase the traffic efficiency and safety. Through the proposed system, the driver can be alerted to the surrounding hazards by communicating with other drivers.

Visually guided collision avoidance and collision achievement

Trends in Cognitive Sciences, 2000
To survive on today's highways, a driver must have highly developed skills in visually guided collision avoidance. To play such games as cricket, tennis or baseball demands accurate, precise and reliable collision achievement. This review discusses evidence that some of these tasks are performed by predicting where an object will be at some sharply ...

Collision avoidance in cloth animation

The Visual Computer, 1996
For cloth modeling and animation, we use a physically based model to simulate the dynamic formation of folds, pleats, and wrinkles and the final static appearance of cloth draped over a rigid object. To simulate the behavior of the cloth and its final static appearance on the model, we propose a new collision and self-collision avoidance method to ...

Collision avoidance in satellite clusters

Proceedings of the 2002 American Control Conference (IEEE Cat. No.CH37301), 2002
A collision avoidance methodology for satellite clusters is developed and simulated. A set membership algorithm is used to monitor and predict guaranteed position uncertainty ellipsoids over time. Distances between ellipsoids can be calculated on-line in order to evaluate when and how fast a collision may occur.

Visual Collision Avoidance by Segmentation

Proceedings of IEEE/RSJ International Conference on Intelligent Robots and Systems (IROS'94), 1995
Visual collision avoidance involves two difficult subproblems: obstacle recognition and depth measurement. We present a class of algorithms that use particularly simple methods for each subproblem and derive a set of sufficient conditions for their proper functioning based on a set of idealizations.
