Colon centreline calculation for CT colonography using optimised 3D opological thinning [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
CT colonography is an emerging technique for colorectal cancer screening. This technique facilitates noninvasive imaging of the colon interior by generating virtual reality models of the colon lumen.

A coordinate deregulation of microRNAs expressed in mucosa adjacent to tumor predicts relapse after resection in localized colon cancer [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Up to 20% of colorectal cancer (CRC) node-negative patients develop loco-regional or distant recurrences within 5 years from surgery. No predictive biomarker able to identify the node-negative subjects at high risk of relapse after curative treatment is ...

Interrogating the immune landscape of microsatellite stable RAS‐mutated colon cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
COLOSSUS project RAS‐mutated MSS colon cancer study explored transcriptomics and immune cell density by immunohistochemistry (IHC), Immunoscore (IS), ISIC/TuLIS scores, mutation counts, and detected different prevalences but similar microenvironment composition across immune markers with clinical relevance for future immunotherapy combination ...

Keratin 19 as a prognostic marker and contributing factor of metastasis and chemoresistance in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Keratin 19 (KRT19) is overexpressed in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer with high levels of Kallikrein‐related peptidases (KLK) 4–7 and is associated with poor survival. In vivo analyses demonstrate that elevated KRT19 increases peritoneal tumour burden.

The current multidisciplinary management of rectal cancer

open access: yesAnnals of Gastroenterological Surgery
Multidisciplinary management of rectal cancer has rapidly evolved over the last several years. This review describes recent data surrounding total neoadjuvant therapy, organ preservation, and management of lateral pelvic lymph nodes. It then presents our

Hippo pathway at the crossroads of stemness and therapeutic resistance in breast cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dysregulation of the Hippo pathway drives nuclear accumulation of YAP/TAZ, activating stemness‐related transcriptional programs that sustain breast cancer stemness and fuel therapeutic resistance across subtypes, underscoring Hippo signaling as a targetable vulnerability. Figure created and edited with BioRender.com.

Changes in neuromuscular structure and functions of human colon during ageing are region-dependent [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Objective: To determine if human colonic neuromuscular functions decline with increasing age.Design: Looking for non-specific changes in neuromuscular function, a standard burst of electrical field stimulation (EFS) was used to evoke neuronally mediated (

CD47 promotes mitogen‐activated protein kinase and epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition molecular programs to drive prometastatic phenotypes in non‐small cell lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Beyond its role in immune evasion, this study identified that CD47 drives tumor‐intrinsic signaling in non‐small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Transcriptomic profiling and functional studies revealed that CD47 regulates cell adhesion, migration, and metastasis through an ERK–EMT signaling axis.

Lavage cytology diagnosed by immunostaining may be a poor prognostic factor in pathological stage III colorectal cancer

open access: yesAnnals of Gastroenterological Surgery
Aim To clarify the prognostic impact of positive lavage cytology diagnosed by immunostaining on long‐term outcomes following curative resection for pathological stage III colorectal cancer (CRC).
