The synthesis of a small library of prospective growth hormone secretagogues [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of the Serbian Chemical Society, 1999
Employing tools of combinatorial chemistry, an original methodological approach has been developed and applied for the design and synthesis of a small library of peptide-like compounds, prospective growth hormone (GH) secretagogues.

Similarity-based virtual screening using 2D fingerprints [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
This paper summarises recent work at the University of Sheffield on virtual screening methods that use 2D fingerprint measures of structural similarity. A detailed comparison of a large number of similarity coefficients demonstrates that the well-known ...

Novel and unscrutinized immune entities of the zebrafish gut

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Understudied cells of the zebrafish immune system include bona fide immune cells and epithelial (‐derived) cells with immune functions. Research focusing on zebrafish cells which demonstrate similarities to mammalian immune cell counterparts may help us understand the pathologies in which they are implicated. Currently available and advanced tools make

Imeglimin attenuates liver fibrosis by inhibiting vesicular ATP release from hepatic stellate cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Imeglimin, at clinically relevant concentrations, inhibits vesicular ATP accumulation and release from hepatic stellate cells, thereby attenuating purinergic signaling and reducing fibrogenic activation. This mechanism reveals a newly identified antifibrotic action of imeglimin beyond glycemic control.

Synthesis, screening, and sequencing of cysteine-rich one-bead one-compound peptide libraries. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Cysteine-rich peptides are valued as tags for biarsenical fluorophores and as environmentally important reagents for binding toxic heavy metals. Due to the inherent difficulties created by cysteine, the power of one-bead one-compound (OBOC) libraries has

Revealing the structure of land plant photosystem II: the journey from negative‐stain EM to cryo‐EM

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Advances in cryo‐EM have revealed the detailed structure of Photosystem II, a key protein complex driving photosynthesis. This review traces the journey from early low‐resolution images to high‐resolution models, highlighting how these discoveries deepen our understanding of light harvesting and energy conversion in plants.
