Evaluation of Complement Activity by an Enzyme Immunoassay

International Archives of Allergy and Immunology, 2009
An ELISA-type assay useful for the evaluation of the complement activity in serum is described. Aggregated pooled human IgG (IgGn) prepared so as to exclude large and small aggregates, to resemble soluble circulating immune complexes, was used to coat polystyrene microwells to serve as initiator of complement activation.

Structural insight into the activation of an Arabidopsis organellar C-to-U RNA editing enzyme by active site complementation

The Plant Cell, 2022
Abstract RNA-binding pentatricopeptide repeat (PPR) proteins catalyze hundreds of cytidine to uridine RNA editing events in plant organelles; these editing events are essential for proper gene expression. More than half of the PPR-type RNA editing factors, however, lack the DYW cytidine deaminase domain.

Structure and Function of Complement Activating Enzyme Complexes C1 and MBL-MASPs

Current Protein & Peptide Science, 2001
The complement system is a major effector arm of the immune defense contributing to the destruction of invading pathogens. There are three possible routes of complement cascade activation: the classical, the alternative and the lectin pathways. The activation of the classical and lectin pathways is initiated by supramolecular complexes, which resemble ...

Neutrophil lysosomal enzyme release and complement activation during cardiopulmonary bypass

Scandinavian Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, 1987
Complement activation and neutrophil degranulation were concomitantly studied during uncomplicated cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB). Plasma concentrations of complement factor C4, complement split product C3d, the neutrophil lysosomal enzyme elastase complexed with alpha 1-proteinase inhibitor (PI) and fibronectin were measured in 12 patients, C3d and ...
