The activation of human complement component C5 by a fluid phase C5 convertase.

open access: yesJournal of Biological Chemistry, 1983
Complement component C5 is converted to C5a and C5b by the cobra venom factor-dependent C3/C5 convertase CVF,Bb (EC 3.4.21.47). The C5 convertase produces selective proteolytic cleavage of an arginyl-leucine peptide bond at positions 74-75 in the alpha chain of C5.

Real‐World Effectiveness and Safety of Ravulizumab in Patients With Paroxysmal Nocturnal Hemoglobinuria: Evidence From the International PNH Registry

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Hematology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Ravulizumab, a second‐generation complement component 5 inhibitor (C5i) derived from eculizumab, with improved pharmacokinetics, is the current standard‐of‐care treatment for patients with paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria (PNH), where available.

K3 surfaces with $\mathbb{Z}_2^2$ symplectic action

open access: yes, 2018
Let $G$ be a finite abelian group which acts symplectically on a K3 surface. The N\'eron-Severi lattice of the projective K3 surfaces admitting $G$ symplectic action and with minimal Picard number is computed by Garbagnati and Sarti.

Intraocular complement activation is independent of systemic complement activation and is related to macular vascular remodelling in retinal vein occlusion

open access: yesBMC Ophthalmology
Background Retinal vein occlusion (RVO) is a major cause of vision loss. The pathogenesis remains poorly defined although inflammation is known to play a critical role.
