CircCCNB1 expression is down‐regulated in nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC); thus, less NF90 protein is bound to circCCNB1 and more binds to pri‐miRNAs, blocking their (pri‐miRNAs) binding to DGCR8 and inhibiting the processing and generation of miR‐15b‐5p/miR‐7‐1‐3p. Furthermore, decreased miR‐15b‐5p/miR‐7‐1‐3p promotes the expression of the target genes

The classical pathway triggers pathogenic complement activation in membranous nephropathy
It is generally thought that complement activation in human membranous nephropathy (MN) occurs predominantly via the lectin or alternative pathway. Here, the authors show that the classical pathway is the dominant form of complement activation in MN and ...

Transcriptome‐wide analysis of circRNA and RBP profiles and their molecular relevance for GBM
CircRNAs are differentially expressed in glioblastoma primary tumors and might serve as therapeutic targets and diagnostic markers. The investigation of circRNA and RNA‐binding proteins (RBPs) interactions shows that distinct RBPs play a role in circRNA biogenesis and function.

Non-closure under complementation for unambiguous linear grammars [PDF]
The paper demonstrates the non-closure of the family of unambiguous linear languages (that is, those defined by unambiguous linear context-free grammars) under complementation. To be precise, a particular unambiguous linear grammar is presented, and it is proved that the complement of this language is not defined by any context-free grammar.

Computing Pathways to Systems Biology: Key Contributions of Computational Methods in Pathway Identification [PDF]
Understanding large molecular networks consisting of entities such as genes, proteins or RNAs that interact in complex ways to drive the cellular machinery has been an active focus of systems biology. Computational approaches have played a key role in systems biology by complementing theoretical and experimental approaches.

Comprehensive Detection of Genes Causing a Phenotype using Phenotype Sequencing and Pathway Analysis [PDF]
Discovering all the genetic causes of a phenotype is an important goal in functional genomics. In this paper we combine an experimental design for multiple independent detections of the genetic causes of a phenotype, with a high-throughput sequencing analysis that maximizes sensitivity for comprehensively identifying them.

Germline variants in CDKN2A wild‐type melanoma prone families
Among melanoma‐prone families, wild‐type for CDKN2A and CDK4, some have pathogenic variants in genes not usually linked to melanoma. Furthermore, rare XP‐related variants and variants in MC1R are enriched in such families. Germline pathogenic variants in CDKN2A are well established as an underlying cause of familial malignant melanoma. While pathogenic

Predictive coding underlies adaptation in the subcortical sensory pathway [PDF]
The subcortical sensory pathways are the fundamental channels for mapping the outside world to our minds. Sensory pathways efficiently transmit information by adapting neural responses to the local statistics of the sensory input. The longstanding mechanistic explanation for this adaptive behaviour is that neuronal habituation scales activity to the ...
