High-yield Escherichia coli -based cell-free expression of human proteins [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Production of sufficient amounts of human proteins is a frequent bottleneck in structural biology. Here we describe an Escherichia coli-based cell-free system which yields mg-quantities of human proteins in N-terminal fusion constructs with the GB1 ...

NOX Inhibitors - A Promising Avenue for Ischemic Stroke. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
NADPH-oxidase (NOX) mediated superoxide originally found on leukocytes, but now recognized in several types of cells in the brain. It has been shown to play an important role in the progression of stroke and related cerebrovascular disease.

GWAS meta-analysis reveals key risk loci in essential tremor pathogenesis

open access: yesCommunications Biology
Essential tremor (ET) is a prevalent neurological disorder with a largely unknown underlying biology. In this genome-wide association study meta-analysis, comprising 16,480 ET cases and 1,936,173 controls from seven datasets, we identify 12 sequence ...

Complexin cross-links pre-fusion SNAREs into a zig-zag array: a structure-based model for complexin clamping

open access: yes, 2011
Complexin prevents SNAREs from releasing neurotransmitters until an action potential arrives at the synapse. To understand the mechanism for this inhibition, we determined the structure of complexin bound to a mimetic of a pre-fusion SNAREpin lacking the portion of the v-SNARE which zippers last to trigger fusion.
