Materials Discovery of Stable and Nontoxic Halide Perovskite Materials for High-Efficiency Solar Cells

open access: yes, 2019
Two critical limitations of organic-inorganic lead halide perovskite materials for solar cells are their poor stability in humid environments and inclusion of toxic lead.

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Harnessing pyroptosis in breast cancer therapy: immunological mechanisms and emerging biomaterial strategies

open access: yesCell Death Discovery
Breast cancer is a complex and predominant long-term medical condition in women. Its complexity is related to its diversity, variable clinical outcomes, and resistance to standard treatments, emphasizing the need for novel treatment strategies ...

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs) derived from MFAP2 promote CRC proliferation and metastasis while suppressing CD8+ T cell-mediated antitumor immunity

open access: yesCell Death and Disease
Colorectal cancer (CRC) ranks among the most prevalent malignancies of the digestive system, with the intricate tumor immune microenvironment (TIME) emerging as a key determinant of poor prognosis.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Curcumin as a promising treatment for pulmonary fibrosis: Mechanism and therapeutic potential

open access: yesPharmacological Research - Modern Chinese Medicine
Introduction: Pulmonary fibrosis (PF) is characterized by excessive proliferation of alveolar epithelial cells and fibroblasts, abnormal deposition of fibrous connective tissue, altered alveolar structure, impaired lung function, and increased airway ...
