Interactions of temperature and taste in conditioned aversions [PDF]

open access: yesPhysiology & Behavior, 2010
The influence of temperature on taste cues and the ability to discriminate and learn about different temperatures of foods are important factors regulating ingestion. The goal of this research was to demonstrate that thermal orosensory input can serve as a salient stimulus to guide ingestive behavior in the rat, and also that it interacts with ...

Stimulus properties of venlafaxine in a conditioned taste aversion procedure

open access: yes, 2008
Conditioned stimulus properties of venlafaxine are still unknown. In the present study, the discriminative stimulus properties of venlafaxine by using a conditioned taste aversion procedure were investigated.

Alcohol as the aversive stimulus in conditioned taste aversion [PDF]

open access: yesBulletin of the Psychonomic Society, 1975
Multiple pairings of alcohol injections with saccharin-flavored water produced a long-lasting aversion to the normally preferred saccharin solution. Alcohol injections of 1.76 g/kg produced a strong aversion to saccharin-flavored water while injections of 1.17 g/kg produced only a moderate aversion.

Differential Involvement of Medial Prefrontal Cortex and Basolateral Amygdala Extracellular Signal-Regulated Kinase in Extinction of Conditioned Taste Aversion Is Dependent on Different Intervals of Extinction Following Conditioning

open access: yes, 2011
Extinction reflects a decrease in the conditioned response ( CR) following non-reinforcement of a conditioned stimulus. Behavioral evidence indicates that extinction involves an inhibitory learning mechanism in which the extinguished CR reappears with ...

Conditioned taste aversions: A bibliography [PDF]

open access: yesAnimal Learning & Behavior, 1976
A bibliographic list of 403 articles dealing specifically with conditioned taste aversions from 1950–1975 is provided. In addition, the references are classified according to six major categories in a topical index. The major categories are Parameters of Conditioning, Physiological Manipulations, Pharmacological Interventions, Methodology, Comparative,

Ethanol induced conditioned taste aversion.

open access: yes, 2014
LHb lesion attenuated the magnitude of a taste aversion conditioned by a single injection of ethanol. X-axis shows intake of supersaccharin; y-axis shows time of saccharin intake relative to injection in days.

Taste Quality and Intensity of 100 Stimuli as Reported by Rats: The Taste–Location Association Task

open access: yesFrontiers in Behavioral Neuroscience, 2012
The interpretation of neural activity related to sensory stimulation requires an understanding of the subject’s perception of the stimulation. Previous methods used to evaluate the perception of chemosensory stimuli by rodents have distinct limitations ...

Love and fear in the times of sickness

open access: yesComprehensive Psychoneuroendocrinology, 2021
Sickness induced by gastrointestinal malaise or by microbial pathogens is more than a private experience. Sick individuals share their illness within their social environment by communicating their sickness to others.

VlPAG/DRN Microglia Drive Neuropathic Pain‐Induced Depression via a Defined Neuroimmune Axis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Peripheral nerve injury (SNI) induces neuropathic pain, activates midbrain microglia, and triggers an NLRP3–IL‐1β–dependent inflammatory cascade. IL‐1β signals through IL‐1R1 on vlPAG/DRN VGLUT2+ neurons (vlPAG/DRNGlu), inducing hyperexcitability and driving the vlPAG/DRNGlu→BNSTGABA circuit to produce the affective component of neuropathic pain ...

Activation of specific mushroom body output neurons inhibits proboscis extension and sucrose consumption.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2020
The ability to modify behavior based on prior experience is essential to an animal's survival. For example, animals may become attracted to a previously neutral odor or reject a previously appetitive food source based on previous encounters.
