Safety impact of cooperative adaptive cruise control vehicles’ degradation under spatial continuous communication interruption

open access: yesIET Intelligent Transport Systems, 2022
Cooperative adaptive cruise control is recognised as an effective means to reduce the rear‐end collision caused by the delayed reaction and improper driving behaviours of manually driven vehicles.

Cumulatively Anticipative Car-Following Model with Enhanced Safety for Autonomous Vehicles in Mixed Driver Environments

open access: yesSmart Cities, 2023
The contribution of autonomous vehicles to traffic is one of the key aspects of future ground transportation in smart cities. Autonomous vehicles are able to provide many benefits, but some benefits can only provide advantages if these vehicles comprise ...

Cooperative adaptive cruise control, design and experiments [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the 2010 American Control Conference, 2010
The design of a CACC system and corresponding experiments are presented. The design targets string stable system behavior, which is assessed using a frequency-domain-based approach. Following this approach, it is shown that the available wireless information enables small inter-vehicle distances, while maintaining string stable behavior.

Graceful Degradation of Cooperative Adaptive Cruise Control [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Intelligent Transportation Systems, 2015
Cooperative adaptive cruise control (CACC) employs wireless intervehicle communication, in addition to onboard sensors, to obtain string-stable vehicle-following behavior at small intervehicle distances. As a consequence, however, CACC is vulnerable to communication impairments such as latency and packet loss.

Automated Merging in a Cooperative Adaptive Cruise Control (CACC) System [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Cooperative Adaptive Cruise Control (CACC) is a form of cruise control in which a vehicle maintains a constant headway to its preceding vehicle using radar and vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communication.

Predictive Model-Based and Control-Aware Communication Strategies for Cooperative Adaptive Cruise Control

open access: yesIEEE Open Journal of Intelligent Transportation Systems, 2023
Utilizing Vehicle-to-everything (V2X) communication technologies, vehicle platooning systems are expected to realize a new paradigm of cooperative driving with higher levels of traffic safety and efficiency.

Cooperative Adaptive Cruise Control Based on Reinforcement Learning for Heavy-Duty BEVs

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2023
This study proposes a novel approach for cooperative adaptive cruise control (CACC) based on the twin delayed deep deterministic policy gradient algorithm (TD3) for heavy duty battery electric vehicles (BEVs).

First Observations about Response Times and Connectivity in a Vehicles Platooning Experiment

open access: yesFindings, 2021
A key question about cooperative vehicle longitudinal control is reactivity, which determines the future of road safety, and capacity. In adaptive cruise control (ACC), the controller adapts the speed of the vehicle to its immediate leader’s speed ...

Assessment of traffic impact on future cooperative driving systems: challenges and considerations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Connect & Drive is a start-up project to develop a cooperative driving system and improve the traffic performance on Dutch highways. It consists of two interactive subsystems: cooperative adaptive cruise control (CACC) and connected cruise control (CCC).
