Corotating Streams and Interaction Regions
1995Abstract In many cases, the existence of an object is inferred from its effects long before it is demonstrated by direct observations. The existence of corotating streams was inferred from their effects on geomagnetic activity (Maunder, 1905; Chapman and Ferraro, 1929; Chapman and Bartels, 1940; Parker, 1963) long before their existence ...

Corotating Plasma Streams revealed by Interplanetary Scintillation
Nature: Physical Science, 1971Daily observations of four radio sources during January and February 1971 have provided convincing evidence that variations in the scintillation index, which are not obviously associated with other activity, can be explained in terms of plasma streams corotating about the Sun.

Dayside Ionospheric (GPS) Response to Corotating Solar Wind Streams
Geophysical Monograph Series, 2006The dayside ionospheric modifications associated with the three phases of corotating stream-generated magnetic storms (initial, main and recovery) are investigated. The high density heliospheric current sheet plasmasheet (HCSPS) pressure pulse impingements onto the magnetosphere, the collision of high magnetic field intensity corotating interaction ...

Corotational solar streams and cosmic-ray diurnal anisotropy
Canadian Journal of Physics, 1991A detailed comparison of the behavior of cosmic-ray diurnal anisotropy with the solar activity cycle indicates that the amplitude of the diurnal anisotropy is significantly modulated by the corotational streams that produce the secondary peak in geomagnetic activity.

Evolution of the multiscale statistical properties of corotating streams from 1 to 95 AU
Journal of Geophysical Research: Space Physics, 2003This paper discusses the multiscale structure of the large‐scale speed fluctuations between 1 and 95 AU during the declining phase of the solar cycle, when corotating streams are dominant structures close to the Sun. A deterministic, multifluid, one‐dimensional MHD model with the WIND data at 1 AU during 1995 as input was used to compute the time ...

The radial variation of corotating energetic particle streams in the inner and outer solar system [PDF]
The radial gradient of long‐lived corotating energetic particle streams is measured by using observations of 0.9‐ to 2.2‐MeV protons from Helios 1 and 2 between 0.3 and 1 AU, Imp 7 at 1 AU, Pioneer 11 at 3.8 AU, and Pioneer 10 between 9 and 10 AU. These studies cover several time periods from mid‐1973 to mid‐1976.

Flare Induced Shocks and Corotating Streams in the Interplanetary Medium
Publications of the Astronomical Society of Australia, 1972Geomagnetic storm sudden commencements (ssc) and sudden increases (si) can be caused by either a propagating discontinuity (i.e. a hydromagnetic shock or blast wave) in the interplanetary plasma or by the convection past the Earth of a discontinuity in the ambient solar plasma flow.

Preliminary Observations of the Effects of a Corotating Stream on Interplanetary Scintillation
Publications of the Astronomical Society of Australia, 1968Since its discovery in 1964, interplanetary scintillation has become recognized as a valuable method for investigating the solar wind and the small-scale structure of the interplanetary medium. A particular advantage of the method lies in the ability to study those regions of the medium outside the plane of the ecliptic. To date little has been written

A three-dimensional model of corotating streams in the solar wind: 3. Magnetohydrodynamic streams
Journal of Geophysical Research: Space Physics, 1982The focus of this paper is two‐fold: (1) to examine how the presence of the spiral magnetic field affects the evolution of interplanetary corotating solar wind streams, and (2) to ascertain the nature of secondary large‐scale phenomena likely to be associated with streams having a pronounced three‐dimensional (3‐D) structure.

Corotating interplanetary streams and associated ionospheric disturbances at Venus and Earth
Advances in Space Research, 1984During the summer of 1979, solar corona structure was such that a sequence of recurrent regions produced a corresponding sequence of corotating solar wind streams with pronounced downstream signatures. One of these stream events passed earth on July 3 and was observed later at Venus late on July 11th, with similar characteristics. Corresponding in situ
