Description of the relativistic plasma stream corotating with the pulsar magnetosphere

Czechoslovak Journal of Physics, 1997
The equation of the motion of the relativistic plasma stream which corotates with the pulsar magnetosphere written in the noninertial frame of a rotating magnetic field line and the same equation written in the rest inertial frame are compared with each other. The possibility of the freezing-in condition use in the rest inertial frame is discussed.

A transitory corotating stream, a short-lived coronal hole, and related magnetic fields

Journal of Geophysical Research: Space Physics, 2001
We discuss some implications of the finite lifetime of a short‐lived near‐equatorial coronal hole for the structure of a corresponding transitory corotating stream and magnetic field in the heliosphere. The discussion is based on the illustrative example of a corotating stream that was observed by the Wind spacecraft in the ecliptic at 1 AU in early ...

Solar Wind Corotating Stream Interaction Regions Out of the Ecliptic Plane: Ulysses

Space Science Reviews, 1995
Ulysses plasma observations reveal that the forward shocks that commonly bound the leading edges of corotating interaction regions (CIRs) beyond ∼2 AU from the Sun at low heliographic latitudes nearly disappeared at a latitude of S26°. On the other hand, the reverse shocks that commonly bound the trailing edges of the CIRs were observed regularly up to

Formation of current sheets and plasmoids within corotating/stream interaction regions

2020
<p>High speed streams originating from coronal holes are long-lived plasma structures that form corotating interaction regions (CIRs) or stream interface regions (SIRs) in the solar wind. The term CIR is used for streams existing for at least one solar rotation period, and the SIR stands for streams with a shorter lifetime. Since

Observed distribution functions of H, He, C, O, and Fe in corotating energetic particle streams - Implications for interplanetary acceleration and propagation [PDF]

open access: yesAstrophysical Journal, 1979
Distribution functions for H, He, C, O, and Fe derived from our IMP 8 measurements of approximately 0.15 to approximately 8 MeV/nucleon particles in three corotating streams observed near earth are shown to have a simple exponential dependence on the ...

A hydromagnetic model of corotating conductive solar wind streams

Astrophysics and Space Science, 1984
Under the assumption of quasi-azimuthal symmetry the governing equations of a steady hydromagnetic flow in a thermally conductive flux tube possess six invariants. Four of them represent constancy of mass efflux, energy efflux, angular momentum efflux and magnetic flux.

Tracking a high-latitude corotating stream for more than half a solar rotation

Planetary and Space Science, 1984
Abstract A sky survey of interplanetary scintillation has been used to map a major corotating structure which extended to high helio-latitudes during 17 July–5 August 1979. Observations of 900 sources enabled the feature to be tracked for 20 days as it approached and passed over the Earth, and its 3-dimensional structure was determined by comparing ...

Enhancements of Interplanetary Scintillation, Corotating Streams and Forbush Decreases

Nature, 1969
BETWEEN mid-July 1967 and early January 1968, part of the northern sky was regularly surveyed by interplanetary scintillation1,2 using the 4 acre aerial at the Mullard Radio Astronomy Observatory, Cambridge, to detect and measure the angular diameters of quasars and other compact radio sources at 81.5 MHz. On a number of days large increases (up to 200

Solar wind stream interfaces in corotating interaction regions: SWICS/Ulysses results

Journal of Geophysical Research: Space Physics, 1997
Motivated by the well‐known differences in charge state and even elemental composition of the slow solar wind as compared to high‐speed streams, we have analyzed observations made by the Solar Wind Ion Composition Spectrometer (SWICS)Ulysses mass spectrometer of the series of corotating interaction regions (CIRs) encountered by Ulysses in 1992/1993 at ...

Ring current behaviour during corotating interaction region and high speed stream events

Journal of Atmospheric and Solar-Terrestrial Physics, 2009
The ring current behaviour during geomagnetic disturbances induced by Corotating Interaction Region (CIR) and High Speed Streams (HSS) in the solar wind is studied using particle data from low altitude polar orbiting satellites. The ion/proton precipitation during CIR/HSS events reveal the spatial and temporal dynamics of the ring current and plasma ...
