Modeling the effects of cosolvents on biodiesel production
Fuel, 2016Abstract In this study, a mathematical model is developed for predicting the effect of cosolvents on the biodiesel production, by taking into account the fact that the process consists of two liquid phases. The proposed model consists of a detailed chemical kinetic reaction mechanism and the phase equilibrium of the two phases.

Cosolvent Effects on Gel‐Entrapped Oxidoreductase: The Glucose Oxidase Model
Biotechnology and Applied Biochemistry, 1988An intrinsic problem often involved in biotransformations carried out by immobilized cells is the poor solubility of substrate and product in water. Increase in hydrophobic substrate availability to such gel‐entrapped cells may be attained by the replacement of a fraction of the aqueous medium by water‐miscible solvents (cosolvents).

Adenosine aminohydrolase from calf intestinal mucosa is sensitive to changes in its environment produced by small mole fractions of dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO). At a mole fraction of 0.1 where the dielectric constant is lowered from that of 78 of neat water to about 76.5, Vmax was reduced by 65% and affinity for substrate (adenosine) and the two ...

Modeling field-scale cosolvent flooding for DNAPL source zone remediation
Journal of Contaminant Hydrology, 2008A three-dimensional, compositional, multiphase flow simulator was used to model a field-scale test of DNAPL removal by cosolvent flooding. The DNAPL at this site was tetrachloroethylene (PCE), and the flooding solution was an ethanol/water mixture, with up to 95% ethanol.

Extension of a compressible lattice model to CO2+ cosolvent + polymer systems
The Journal of Supercritical Fluids, 2010Abstract We have recently proposed a compressible lattice model for CO 2 + polymer systems in which CO 2 forms complexes with one or more functional groups in the polymer. Furthermore, we have shown that this model is able to simultaneously correlate phase equilibria, sorption behavior, and glass transition temperatures in such systems.

N-Methyl-2-pyrrolidone (methylpyrrolidone), a cosolvent which has been used in veterinary medicine and in transdermal delivery devices, was investigated as a cosolvent for model drug compounds of widely varying polarity. These compounds were digoxin, sulfamethoxazole, hydrocortisone acetate, theophylline, phenytoin, and reserpine. Methylpyrrolidone was

Solubility of solids in supercritical fluids was studied by chemical association reaction method in this work, where both cases of with and without cosolvent were considered. Based on the thermodynamic and association reaction equilibrium theories, a model for the solubility of solids in supercritical fluids under association reactions was developed ...
