Inhibitory potential of Crotalus durissus terrificus venom on measles virus growth

This paper presents the antiviral activity found in a snake with Crotalus durissus terrificus venom (Cdt), studied by use of microplate inhibition assay, using measles virus (MV). Cdt at concentrations below 100 microg/ml showed no cytotoxicity for Vero cells. This study shows the optimal conditions for cell treatment and infection.

Gyroxin, a toxin from the venom of Crotalus durissus terrificus, is a thrombin-like enzyme

We report a simple method for the isolation of gyroxin, a protein from the venom of the South American rattlesnake Crotalus durissus terrificus. The intravenous injection of gyroxin into mice produces temporary episodes characterized by opisthotonos and rotations around the long axis of the animal.

This article describes the light and electron microscopic appearance of the rat myocardium at various time intervals after the administration of Crotalus durissus terrificus venom by intraperitoneal route. The crotalid envenomation produced small foci of myocardial necrosis scattered throughout the base of the ventricles.

The venom of South American rattlesnake Crotalus durissus terrificus is very toxic but poorly immunogenic and it has an immunosuppressive ability. The heating of venom at 56, 70 or 100 degrees C for 30 min caused a diminution in the lethal, phospholipase A(2) and myotoxic activities.
