Crotamine is a novel cell‐penetrating protein from the venom of rattlesnake Crotalus durissus terrificus

The FASEB Journal, 2004
Herein we report that crotamine, a small lysine‐ and cysteine‐rich protein from the venom of the South American rattlesnake, can rapidly penetrate into different cell types and mouse blastocysts in vitro. In vivo, crotamine strongly labels cells from mouse bone marrow and spleen and from peritoneal liquid, as shown by fluorescent confocal laser ...

Effects of the crotalus durissus terrificus snake venom on hepatic metabolism and oxidative stress

Journal of Biochemical and Molecular Toxicology, 2010
AbstractSnake venoms present different action mechanisms because of their complex composition, represented mainly by toxins and enzymes. This work aimed to investigate the effects of the Crotalus durissus terrificus(Cdt) venom in the liver. Wistar rats were inoculated intraperitoneally with saline (control) or Cdt venom.

Structural and Functional Characterization of Basic PLA2 Isolated from Crotalus durissus terrificus Venom

Journal of Protein Chemistry, 2002
The venom of Crotalus durissus terrificus was fractionated by reverse-phase HPLC to obtain crotapotins (F5 and F7) and PLA2 (F15, F16, and F17) of high purity. The phospholipases A2 (PLA2S) and crotapotins showed antimicrobial activity against Xanthomonas axonopodis pv. passiflorae, although the unseparated crotoxin did not.

Convulxin, a new toxin from the venom of the South American rattlesnake Crotalus durissus terrificus

Toxicon, 1981
Abstract Certain motor, respiratory and circulatory disturbances evoked by C.d. terrificus venom are not due to the actions of crotoxin, gyroxin or crotamine. This observation led to the isolation of a new toxin that was called convulxin. Convulxin was obtained through precipitation of the whole venom with ammonium sulfate followed by gel ...

[Early effect of Crotalus durissus terrificus venom on kidney circulation].

Acta physiologica latino americana, 1981
Local blood flow was measured in renal cortex (1 mm below cortical surface) by means of the hydrogen clearance method in urethanized rats. Recording of blood pressure from femoral artery was performed. Crotalus durissus terrificus venom injection (one mg/kg i.v.) significantly decreased cortical blood flow at 10 min, without a significant arterial ...

Studies on pancreatic trypsin from Crotalus durissus terrificus—comparison with proteases of venoms

Toxicon, 1969
Abstract Some kinetic characteristics of pancreatic trypsin from Crotalus durissus terrificus were studied. Except for the data concerning the stability of the enzyme, all the other studies pointed to the similarity between bovine and ophidian trypsins.

Ascorbyl palmitate (ASC16) as a potential inhibitor of toxicity induced by Crotalus durissus terrificus venom

Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology Part C: Toxicology & Pharmacology
It is well known that C. d. terrificus venom causes pathophysiological effects such as neuropathies, coagulopathies, and even death. Previous studies have reported that ASC16 can interact with monomeric phospholipases A2 from the venom of various snake species (e.g., Vipera russelli and Echis carinatus).
