Abstract Medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC) is a neuroendocrine tumor originating from calcitonin producing C‐cells and accounts for 1–5% of thyroid cancers. Total thyroidectomy is curative in localized disease (N0), whereas lymph node metastases (N1) are associated with poorer prognosis.

Benefits and Toxicity of Disulfiram in Preclinical Models of Nephropathic Cystinosis
Nephropathic cystinosis is a rare disease caused by mutations of the CTNS gene that encodes for cystinosin, a lysosomal cystine/H+ symporter. The disease is characterized by early-onset chronic kidney failure and progressive development of extra-renal ...

Relation of Study Design to Recruitment and Retention in CTN Trials [PDF]
Recruitment and retention in randomized clinical trials are difficult in general and particularly so in trials of substance abuse treatments. Understanding trial design characteristics that could affect recruitment and retention rates would help in the design of future trials. To test whether any of the following factors are associated with recruitment ...

Abstract Exertional heat illness (EHI) and exertional rhabdomyolysis (ER) are increasingly recognized causes of morbidity in competitive and tactical athletes. Cardiac troponin (cTn) elevation, traditionally viewed as a marker of myocardial necrosis, may also be seen in these settings and can create significant diagnostic and prognostic uncertainty ...

Molecular characterization of CTNS mutations in Tunisian patients with ocular cystinosis
Abstract Background Ocular cystinosis is a rare autosomal recessive disorder characterized by intralysosomal cystine accumulation in renal, ophthalmic (cornea, conjunctiva), and other organ abnormalities. Patients with ocular cystinosis are mostly asymptomatic and typically experience mild photophobia due to cystine ...

Mechanisms of bacterial membrane permeabilization by crotalicidin (Ctn) and its fragment Ctn(15–34), antimicrobial peptides from rattlesnake venom [PDF]
Crotalicidin (Ctn), a cathelicidin-related peptide from the venom of a South American rattlesnake, possesses potent antimicrobial, antitumor, and antifungal properties. Previously, we have shown that its C-terminal fragment, Ctn(15-34), retains the antimicrobial and antitumor activities but is less toxic to healthy cells and has improved serum ...

Consideration Without Economic Duress: Reframing the Analysis of Contractual Modifications
Prevailing approaches to the contractual enforceability of modifications revise or dispense with the requirement of consideration and invoke economic duress to rule out unfair, inequitable, or bad faith modifications. Enforceability turns effectively on the absence of economic duress. But economic duress is a doctrine of avoidance.

Two novel CTNS mutations in cystinosis patients in Thailand [PDF]
Cystinosis is an autosomal recessive disorder characterized by defective transport of cystine across the lysosomal membrane and resulting in renal, ophthalmic, and other organ abnormalities. Mutations in the CTNS gene cause a deficiency of the transport protein, cystinosin.
