Effect of rapamycin on cue-induced drug craving in abstinent heroin addicts
European Journal of Pharmacology, 2009The mammalian target of rapamycin is an evolutionarily conserved serine-threonine kinase (mTOR), which controls protein synthesis and catabolism in response to environmental cues. This randomized double-blind clinical trial enrolled 60 abstinent heroin addicts and randomly assigned them to three groups: placebo, 2.5 mg and 5 mg rapamycin.

Retrospective study: Influence of menstrual cycle on cue-induced cigarette craving
Nicotine & Tobacco Research, 2004Cigarettes acquire reinforcing properties from nicotine and from cues associated with their intake. However, smoking in males and females may be reinforced differentially. Smoking in females is posited to be influenced more by cues whereas male smoking is influenced predominantly by the direct pharmacological actions of nicotine in the brain. Menstrual

A virtual reality counterconditioning procedure to reduce methamphetamine cue-induced craving
Journal of Psychiatric Research, 2019The present work developed a virtual reality (VR) counterconditioning procedure (VRCP), and investigated its efficacy in treatment of cue-induced craving in individuals with methamphetamine (METH) dependence. In study 1, thirty-one patients diagnosed with METH dependence received VRCP, while twenty-nine METH-dependent patients in waiting-list group did

Effect of Tryptophan Depletion on Alcohol Cue-Induced Craving in Abstinent Alcoholic Patients
Alcoholism: Clinical and Experimental Research, 2001Background: The capacity of alcohol cues to precipitate the desire to drink may be an important determinant of relapse to alcohol use in recovering alcohol‐dependent patients. This study evaluated whether attenuation of serotonin synthesis via depletion of its precursor tryptophan reduces the magnitude of cue‐induced craving for alcohol in recently ...

Cue-induced behavioural activation: a novel model of alcohol craving?
Psychopharmacology, 2003Alcohol-associated cues elicit craving in human addicts but little is known about craving mechanisms. Current animal models focus on relapse and this may confound the effect of environmental cues. OBJECTIVES. To develop a model to study the effects of environmental cues on alcohol consumption in animals not experiencing withdrawal or relapse.Rats were ...
