An unbalanced excess of oxygen/nitrogen species (ROS/RNS) can give oxidative hazard to DNA and other biomacromolecules under oxidative stress conditions. While the 'comet' assay for measuring DNA damage is neither specific nor practical, monitoring oxidative changes on individual DNA bases and other oxidation products needs highly specialized equipment

Vegetable Oils Microwave Heating. CUPRAC, TEAC and FRAP Values in Relation with Oxidative Parameters
Revista de Chimie, 2017Microwave heating is a common cooking procedure.Heating can accelerate oxidative processes in oil sand oxidation products are known to have potential toxic effects on human health. Therefore it would be useful to have a method to anticipate the vegetable oils behaviour under thermal conditions.

Reactive oxygen species (ROS) such as superoxide anion, hydroxyl ((*)OH), peroxyl, and alkoxyl radicals may attack biological macromolecules giving rise to oxidative stress-originated diseases. Since (*)OH is very short-lived, secondary products resulting from (*)OH attack to various probes are measured.

A novel fiber optic sensor was developed for screening the total antioxidant capacity (TAC) based on the use of cupric-neocuproine (Cu(II)-Nc) immobilized onto a Nafion cation-exchange membrane with reflectance spectrometric measurement. The reflectance change associated with the formation of the highly colored Cu(I)-Nc chelate on the membrane as a ...
