Brushes of semiflexible polymers in equilibrium and under flow in super-hydrophobic regime [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
We performed molecular dynamics simulations to study equilibrium and flow properties of a liquid in a nano-channel with confining surfaces coated with a layer of grafted semiflexible polymers.

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Effect of particle shape on liquefaction and Re-liquefaction strength of short fiber-reinforced sand

open access: yesResults in Engineering
Fiber-reinforcement is a widely studied soil stabilization technique, yet certain aspects of its reinforcing mechanisms and fiber-soil interactions remain unexplored.

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Liquefaction Potential of Silty Sand in Simple Shear [PDF]

open access: yesMehran University Research Journal of Engineering and Technology, 2013
In this paper, the liquefaction potential of medium dense and dense sand layers was studied by performing constant volume (undrained) cyclic simple shear tests using cyclic simple shear apparatus. Strain-controlled approach was adopted.

The Influence of Mobility Rate on Spiral Waves in Spatial Rock-Paper-Scissors Games

open access: yesGames, 2016
We consider a two-dimensional model of three species in rock-paper-scissors competition and study the self-organisation of the population into fascinating spiraling patterns.

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Nonbinary LDPC-Coded Modulation System in High-Speed Mobile Communications

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2018
As a class of capacity-approaching codes, nonbinary low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes have attracted much attention because of noticeable performance.

Effect Of Initial Stress Anisotropy on The Cyclic Behaviour of Sand [PDF]

open access: yesEngineering and Technology Journal, 2005
Due mainly to the process of deposition under earth gravity , the behavior of in situ sand is inherently anisotropic , meaning the stress - strain - strength relations for the same sand may vary as the stress tensor rotates relative to the orientation of

Wave excitations of drifting two-dimensional electron gas under strong inelastic scattering

open access: yes, 2012
We have analyzed low-temperature behavior of two-dimensional electron gas in polar heterostructures subjected to a high electric field. When the optical phonon emission is the fastest relaxation process, we have found existence of collective wave-like ...
