Osteoclastogenesis is decreased by cysteine proteinase inhibitors

open access: yesBone, 2004
The effects of cystatin C and other cysteine proteinase inhibitors on osteoclast formation and differentiation have been investigated. Cystatin C decreased osteoclast formation stimulated by parathyroid hormone (PTH), 1,25(OH)(2)-vitamin D3 or ...

Cysteine proteinase inhibitors in murine cysticercosis. [PDF]

open access: yesAntimicrob Agents Chemother, 2006
ABSTRACT We explored the prophylactic efficacies of two novel protease inhibitors in murine cysticercosis. Our results demonstrated a 95% and 80% reduction in parasite burden for mice injected with Z-LLL-FMK and Z-LLY-FMK, respectively. Further studies are merited on the role of cysteine proteinase inhibitors in treatment of cysticercosis.

Cystatins — Inhibitors of Cysteine Proteinases [PDF]

open access: yesCritical Reviews in Oral Biology & Medicine, 1992
The cystatin superfamily of proteins, derived from a common ancestor, is comprised of a diverse group of potent cysteine proteinase inhibitors and antibacterial/viral agents grouped into several families. This review concentrates on family 2 cystatins, namely, the human salivary cystatins and cystatin C.

Primary structure of potato Kunitz-type serine proteinase inhibitor [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
The serine proteinase inhibitor (PSPI-51) isolated from potato tubers (Solanum tuberosum L,) comprises two protein species with pi 5.2 and 6.3, denoted as PSPI-21-5.2 and PSPI-21-6.3, respectively.

Identification of semicarbazones, thiosemicarbazones and triazine nitriles as inhibitors of Leishmania mexicana cysteine protease CPB [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Cysteine proteases of the papain superfamily are present in nearly all eukaryotes. They play pivotal roles in the biology of parasites and inhibition of cysteine proteases is emerging as an important strategy to combat parasitic diseases such as sleeping

The synthesis of peptidylfluoromethanes and their properties as inhibitors of serine proteinases and cysteine proteinases [PDF]

open access: yesBiochemical Journal, 1986
A synthesis of peptidylfluoromethanes is described that utilizes the conversion of phthaloyl amino acids into their fluoromethane derivatives. These can be deblocked and elongated. The inactivation of chymotrypsin by Cbz-Phe-CH2F (benzyloxycarbonylphenylalanylfluoromethane) was found to be considerably slower than that of the analogous chloromethane ...

Digestive proteolytic activity in the gut and salivary glands of the predatory bug Podisus maculiventris (Heteroptera: Pentatomidae); effect of proteinase inhibitors

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Entomology, 2005
Proteinase activity in the midgut of the pentatomid stinkbug Podisus maculiventris was investigated. The optimal pH for adult and nymph proteolysis was pH 6.0 and pH 6.5, respectively.

The tick-derived anticoagulant madanin is processed by thrombin and factor Xa. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2013
The cysteine-less peptidic anticoagulants madanin-1 and madanin-2 from the bush tick Haemaphysalis longicornis are the founding members of the MEROPS inhibitor family I53.

Novel bi- and trifunctional inhibitors of tumor-associated proteolytic systems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
Serine proteases, cysteine proteases, and matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) are involved in cancer cell invasion and metastasis. Recently, a recombinant bifunctional inhibitor (chCysuPA(19-31)) directed against cysteine proteases and the urokinasetype ...

Expression of two barley proteinase inhibitors in tomato promotes endogenous defensive response and enhances resistance to Tuta absoluta

open access: yesBMC Plant Biology, 2018
Background Plants and insects have coexisted for million years and evolved a set of interactions which affect both organisms at different levels. Plants have developed various morphological and biochemical adaptations to cope with herbivores attacks ...
