Endosomes as Signaling Platforms for IL-6 Family Cytokine Receptors

open access: yesFrontiers in Cell and Developmental Biology, 2021
Interleukin-6 (IL-6) is the name-giving cytokine of a family of eleven members, including IL-6, CNTF, LIF, and IL-27. IL-6 was first recognized as a B-cell stimulating factor but we now know that the cytokine plays a pivotal role in the orchestration of ...

GPL, a Novel Cytokine Receptor Related to GP130 and Leukemia Inhibitory Factor Receptor [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Biological Chemistry, 2003
We describe a novel cytokine receptor named GP130 Like receptor, or GPL, that displays similarities with the interleukin-6 and interleukin-12 family of signaling receptors. Four different isoforms diverging in their carboxyl terminus were isolated, corresponding to proteins encompassing 560, 610, 626, and 745 amino acids.

The Alzheimer’s disease-linked protease BACE1 modulates neuronal IL-6 signaling through shedding of the receptor gp130

open access: yesMolecular Neurodegeneration, 2023
Background The protease BACE1 is a major drug target for Alzheimer’s disease, but chronic BACE1 inhibition is associated with non-progressive cognitive worsening that may be caused by modulation of unknown physiological BACE1 substrates.

Convergent Mechanisms for Recognition of Divergent Cytokines by the Shared Signaling Receptor gp130 [PDF]

open access: yesMolecular Cell, 2003
Gp130 is a shared cell-surface signaling receptor for at least ten different hematopoietic cytokines, but the basis of its degenerate recognition properties is unknown. We have determined the crystal structure of human leukemia inhibitory factor (LIF) bound to the cytokine binding region (CHR) of gp130 at 2.5 A resolution.

Modulation of Pro-Inflammatory IL-6 Trans-Signaling Axis by Splice Switching Oligonucleotides as a Therapeutic Modality in Inflammation

open access: yesCells, 2023
Interleukin-6 (IL-6) is a pleiotropic cytokine that plays a crucial role in maintaining normal homeostatic processes under the pathogenesis of various inflammatory and autoimmune diseases.

Kinetics of cytokine receptor trafficking determine signaling and functional selectivity

open access: yeseLife, 2019
Cytokines activate signaling via assembly of cell surface receptors, but it is unclear whether modulation of cytokine-receptor binding parameters can modify biological outcomes.

Uterine epithelial Gp130 orchestrates hormone response and epithelial remodeling for successful embryo attachment in mice

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2023
Leukemia inhibitory factor (LIF) receptor, an interleukin 6 cytokine family signal transducer (Il6st, also known as Gp130) that is expressed in the uterine epithelium and stroma, has been recognized to play an essential role in embryo implantation ...

Tyrosine 759 of the cytokine receptor gp130 is involved in Listeria monocytogenes susceptibility [PDF]

open access: yesGenes & Immunity, 2002
Interleukin-6 family cytokines have been implicated in adaptive and innate immunity, hematopoiesis, and inflammation. This cytokine family shares a signal-transducing receptor subunit called gp130. gp130(F759/F759) knockin mice carry a point mutation at the SHP2-binding site of gp130 due to the replacement of tyrosine-759 (Y759 for human gp130) with ...

Glycoprotein 130 Cytokine Signal as a Therapeutic Target Against Cardiovascular Diseases

open access: yesJournal of Pharmacological Sciences, 2011
.: Postnatal cardiomyocytes have only limited capacity of proliferation. Therefore, the myocardium is intrinsically equipped with cardioprotective machineries and protects itself from pathological stresses.

Multimerization strategies for efficient production and purification of highly active synthetic cytokine receptor ligands.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2020
Cytokine signaling is transmitted by cell surface receptors which act as natural biological switches to control cellular functions such as immune reactions.
