Serendipitous Symptom Control: Allopurinol for Spasticity in a Case of SPG4‐Linked Hereditary Spastic Paraplegia—A Case Report

open access: yesClinical Case Reports, Volume 14, Issue 1, January 2026.
Graphical representation of spasticity and medication changes. (A) Temporal course of lower limb spasticity measured by MAS scores. Following initiation of allopurinol 300 mg daily at baseline (red dashed line), there was a rapid and sustained improvement in spasticity from severe (MAS = 4) to mild (MAS = 1.8) over 12 months of follow‐up, represented ...

Nuclear calcium signaling evoked by cholinergic stimulation in hippocampal CA1 pyramidal neurons [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
The cholinergic system is thought to play an important role in hippocampal-dependent learning and memory. However, the mechanism of action of the cholinergic system in these actions in not well understood.

Association Discovery Approach in Healthcare Big Data to Identify Drug Safety and Drug Repurposing Signals

open access: yesClinical Pharmacology &Therapeutics, Volume 119, Issue 1, Page 228-240, January 2026.
Data science approaches have been increasingly implemented in healthcare big data to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of drugs. Association discovery is a data mining approach that finds potentially associated elements in high‐dimensional data. We present a novel implementation of the association discovery approach in longitudinal healthcare data ...

Dantrolene is neuroprotective in Huntington's disease transgenic mouse model

open access: yesMolecular Neurodegeneration, 2011
Background Huntington's disease (HD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder caused by a polyglutamine expansion in the Huntingtin protein which results in the selective degeneration of striatal medium spiny neurons (MSNs).

Influence of ER leak on resting cytoplasmic Ca2+ and receptormediated Ca2+ signalling in human macrophage [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Mechanisms controlling endoplasmic reticulum (ER) Ca2+ homeostasis are important regulators of resting cytoplasmic Ca2+ concentration ([Ca2+]cyto) and receptor-mediated Ca2+ signalling.

Pharmacotherapeutic Controversies During Temperature Control After Out‐of‐Hospital Cardiac Arrest: A Semi‐Structured Literature Review

open access: yesPharmacotherapy: The Journal of Human Pharmacology and Drug Therapy, Volume 46, Issue 1, January 2026.
ABSTRACT Post‐resuscitation cardiac arrest care begins at the time of hospital admission and focuses on preventing the sequelae of ischemia–reperfusion injury, including secondary brain damage and post‐cardiac arrest syndrome. Clinical practice guidelines on post‐resuscitation cardiac arrest care from international medical organizations outline ...

Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome, with Attention to Its Occurrence with Atypical Antipsychotic Medication: A Review [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
The neuroleptic malignant syndrome (NMS) is an idiopathic, life-threatening reaction to antipsychotic medication. NMS was traditionally attributed to potent dopamine antagonism of typical antipsychotics, but cases of NMS have now been reported for each ...

Myasthenia Gravis Outcomes After Use of Statins and Other Contraindicated Treatments: Results From the French National Insurance Database

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Neurology, Volume 33, Issue 1, January 2026.
In this real‐world study among 14,459 adults with MG, exposure to any contraindicated treatment was not significantly associated with risk of ICU admission for MG but was associated with significantly higher risk of death. In contrast, statins were associated with a greater risk of ICU admission but a lower risk of death.
