Isolation of a Delta(5)-fatty acid desaturase gene from Mortierella alpina [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
Arachidonic acid (C20:4 Δ5,8,11,14)) is a polyunsaturated fatty acid synthesized by the ?-fatty acid desaturation of di-homo-?-linolenic acid (C20:3 Δ8,11,14)).

ATP Citrate Lyase in Metabolic Disease: Mechanistic Insights and Clinical Potential

open access: yesiNew Medicine, EarlyView.
ATP citrate lyase (ACLY) is a central metabolic hub that diverts mitochondrial citrate to fuel de novo lipogenesis, cholesterol biosynthesis, and protein acetylation. Given its robust correlation with pathological changes in multiple human diseases, ACLY inhibitors featuring distinct pharmacological strengths have been developed for therapeutic ...

Bisphenol A and Its Analogs: Toxicity Analysis in Mouse and Rat Liver—A Review

open access: yesJournal of Applied Toxicology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Bisphenol A (BPA) and its analogs are widely recognized for their use in industry and plastic manufacturing. Consequently, humans and animals are continually exposed to various substances in their daily lives. This review evaluates the hepatic toxicity of BPA and its analogs in mice and rats, with particular emphasis on molecular mechanisms ...

Sensorial and nutritional qualities of muscles from cross‐bred Salers heifers raised on mid‐mountain pasture

open access: yesJSFA reports, EarlyView.
Abstract Background This study investigated the effects of crossbreeding, finishing system, and muscle type on carcass characteristics, intramuscular fat (IMF), image‐based IMF estimation, fatty acid composition, and meat quality in beef heifers. Charolais × Salers (C × S) and Angus × Salers (A × S) crossbred heifers were finished either on pasture or ...

Effects of Long-Term Sunflower Oil vs. Linseed Oil Diets on Fatty Acids Phospholipids and Desaturases in Hepatocytes

open access: yesProceedings
Background and Objectives: The liver plays a central role in the biosynthesis and metabolism of fatty acids. The liver’s phospholipids fatty acids composition depends on the dietary intake of lipids and the efficiency of enzymatic activity in the liver ...

Changes In the lipid composition of rat hepatic microsomes induced by the diet

open access: yesGrasas y Aceites, 1994
The effect on the hepatic microsomes from rats fed with either virgin olive oil (10%) or fish oil (10%), with or without added cholesterol (1%), has been studied.

Macronutrient and micronutrient profiles of meat types: insights into human health and diet

open access: yesJournal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, EarlyView.
Abstract Despite considerable advances in global health and nutrition, emerging challenges such as population growth, climate change, and limited natural resources continue to threaten food security. Meat remains an essential component of the human diet, supplying high‐quality proteins, essential amino acids, lipids, vitamins, and minerals necessary ...

Myristic acid increases $\Delta$6-desaturase activity in cultured rat hepatocytes

open access: yes, 2004
In order to study the effects of saturated fatty acids on $\Delta$6-desaturase activity, rat hepatocytes in primary culture were incubated with lauric (C12:0), myristic (C14:0) or palmitic (C16:0) acids.

In planta analysis of the mode of action of cinmethylin and confirmation of fatty acyl‐ACP thioesterases (FATs) as primary site of action

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
In planta analysis of the mode of action of cinmethylin and confirmation of fatty acyl‐ACP thioesterases (FATs) as primary site of action. Cinmethylin inhibits FATs, disrupting eukaryotic de novo lipid biosynthesis and causing defects in cell division, elongation and integrity. We confirm FATs as the primary site of action in planta.

Interaction of serum zinc and copper status with fatty acid desaturases on incidence of type 2 diabetes in the EPIC-Potsdam study

open access: yesRedox Biology
Aims: To examine whether zinc (Zn) and copper (Cu) status influence the association of estimated delta-5 desaturase (D5D), delta-6 desaturase (D6D), and stearoyl-CoA desaturase-1 (SCD1) activities with type 2 diabetes (T2D) risk.
