Lyssavirus Nucleoprotein Induces GPAT4‐Mediated CYB5R1 Depalmitoylation to Suppress Ferroptosis and Promote Viral Replication

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Lipid metabolism plays a vital role in viral infections. Here, we reveal that the lyssavirus N protein regulates GPAT4 to induce lipid droplet biogenesis, restricting CYB5R1 palmitoylation and reducing ferroptosis susceptibility to ultimately promote viral replication.

Palmitoleic and Dihomo-γ-Linolenic Acids Are Positively Associated With Abdominal Obesity and Increased Metabolic Risk in Children

open access: yesFrontiers in Pediatrics, 2021
Background: The impact of abdominal obesity (AO) on plasma fatty acid changes and cardiometabolic risk in children who are obese and overweight has rarely been investigated.

Ciliary Membrane Lipid Homeostasis in Health and Disease

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This review systematically delineates the distinct lipid landscapes of ciliary membranes, including the spatial organization of phosphoinositides, cholesterol, and sphingolipids. It elucidates how these lipids orchestrate ciliogenesis, signal transduction, and membrane dynamics in cilia beating, and highlights how their dysregulation drives ...

The dihydroceramide desaturase is not essential for cell viability in Schizosaccharomyces pombe [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
Recent studies have identified a new family of desaturase-like polypeptide sequences in many higher eukaryotes. Functional characterisation of one member of this family, from Schizosaccharomyces pombe, revealed the enzyme to be a sphingolipid desaturase.

Assay for the terminal enzyme of the stearoyl coenzyme A desaturase system using chick embryo liver microsomes

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1977
The NADH-dependent stearoyl CoA desaturase of hepatic microsomes (EC 1.14.99.5) is an enzyme system consisting of cytochrome b5 reductase (EC 1.6.2.2), cytochrome b5, and the terminal desaturase. We have developed a simple method for routine assay of the

Fatty acid profile and estimated desaturase activities in whole blood are associated with metabolic health

open access: yesLipids in Health and Disease, 2020
Background The aim was to investigate if fatty acid profile and estimated desaturase activities; stearoyl CoA-desaturase (SCD), delta-5-desaturase and delta-6-desaturase (D5D; D6D), differ between individuals with metabolically healthy (MH) and unhealthy

Abnormal n-6 fatty acid metabolism in cystic fibrosis is caused by activation of AMP-activated protein kinase

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 2014
Cystic fibrosis (CF) patients and model systems exhibit consistent abnormalities in PUFA metabolism, including increased metabolism of linoleate to arachidonate.

Heart rate is associated with markers of fatty acid desaturation: the GOCADAN study [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Circumpolar Health, 2012
Objectives: To determine if heart rate (HR) is associated with desaturation indexes as HR is associated with arrhythmia and sudden death. Study design: A community based cross-sectional study of 1214 Alaskan Inuit. Methods: Data of FA concentrations from

Revisiting Securidaca longipedunculata Seed Oil: Applying NMR and Mass Spectroscopy to Confirm the Presence of 2‐Acetyl‐1,3‐Diacyl–sn‐Glycerols and Conjugated Hydroxydienoic Fatty Acids

open access: yesJournal of the American Oil Chemists' Society, EarlyView.
The manuscript confirms and expands on previous reports concerning the presence of unusual conjugated hydroxydienoic fatty acids and acetyl‐TAG in the seed oil of Securidaca longipedunculata. The location of acetate only at sn‐2 of TAG was conclusively shown by high resolution NMR and hydroxy seed fatty acids are characterized.

Investigating the potential of dietary iron supplementation to enhance long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acid biosynthesis in Hediste diversicolor

open access: yesScientific Reports
Fatty acyl desaturases are nutritionally regulated and depend on iron (Fe) for optimal activity. We hypothesised that dietary Fe supplementation, under conditions promoting desaturase upregulation, can enhance desaturase activity and improve n-3 LC-PUFA ...
