Cortisol Cutoffs for Adrenal Insufficiency Using Elecsys II: A Systematic Review

open access: yesClinical Endocrinology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Adrenal insufficiency (AI) is associated with increased risk of morbidity and mortality if improperly managed. Adrenocorticotrophin (ACTH) stimulation testing is the most widely used AI diagnostic test. Historically, a serum cortisol threshold of 500 nmol/L (18.1 µg/dL), derived using polyclonal assays, was widely used.

Müllerian Duct Aplasia in a Girl With SMARCB1‐Related Coffin–Siris Syndrome: A Rare Co‐Occurring Anomaly

open access: yesClinical Genetics, EarlyView.
Genetic causes of Müllerian aplasia remain largely unknown. We report the first molecularly confirmed case of Coffin–Siris syndrome 3 caused by a de novo SMARCB1 variant presenting with Müllerian aplasia, supporting a potential association between BAF complex dysfunction and abnormal Müllerian duct development. Circadian disruption elicits sex‐specific gut microbiota, endocannabinoidome, and lipid mediator responses

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
Circadian disruption via constant light induces sex‐specific remodeling of the microbiome, lipid mediators, and immune responses. Females exhibit broader gut microbiota alterations, reduced jejunal oxylipins, increased hypothalamic N‐acylethanolamines, and a more inflammatory cytokine profile. Muscle responses are sex‐ and fiber type‐dependent: females

The role of acute cortisol and DHEAS in predicting acute and chronic PTSD symptoms [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Background: Decreased activation of the hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis in response to stress is suspected to be a vulnerability factor for posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

EFFECTS OF DEHYDROEPIANDROSTERONE SULFATE UPON PHENOTYPE AND IN VITRO FUNCTIONS OF DENDRITIC CELLS

open access: yesМедицинская иммунология, 2014
. The study deals with evaluation of dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate (DHEAS) effects upon phenotype and functions of dendritic cells (DCs), generated from blood monocytes of pregnant women by means of GM-CSF and IFN-alpha.

Biochemical profiling and symptomatology of androgen deficiency in males with cluster headache: A prospective case–control study

open access: yesHeadache: The Journal of Head and Face Pain, EarlyView.
Abstract Objectives/Background Cluster headache (CH) has historically been considered a male‐dominated disorder, suggesting a role for androgens in its pathophysiology. We aimed to evaluate hormone profiles and symptoms of androgen deficiency in CH.

Endogenous DHEAS is Causally Linked with Lumbar Spine Bone Mineral Density and Forearm Fractures in Women

open access: yes, 2022
A recent pooled analysis of four clinical trials demonstrated that treatment with dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) increases lumbar spine BMD (LS-BMD) in women.

Modulation of sebocyte function in acne: A pathway‐inclusive review

open access: yesJournal of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology, EarlyView.
Acne is multifactorial, with the sebocyte acting as a central immunometabolic hub linking lipogenic, inflammatory, hormonal and barrier pathways. Mapping established and investigational therapies onto this sebocyte‐centred model offers a mechanism‐based framework that complements existing treatment paradigms and may guide more targeted, antibiotic ...

Systemic, Lifestyle and Environmental Modifying Factors in the Pathogenesis of Periodontitis

open access: yesJournal of Periodontal Research, EarlyView.
A variety of impacting factors in the pathogenesis of periodontitis exist, including systemic, lifestyle, and environmental factors. This review highlights the manifold mechanistic aspects of the link between the pathogenesis of periodontitis, addressing these numerous factors to supplement the long‐standing knowledge of the progression of the disease.
