Feeding the Worlth Healthily: the Challenge of Measuring the effects of Agriculture on Health [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Agricultural production, food systems and population health are intimately linked. While there is a strong evidence base to inform our knowledge of what constitutes a healthy human diet, we know little about actual food production or consumption in many ...

A Study on the Cell Layer Patterns of a Citrus Periclinal Chimera Reveals β‐Cryptoxanthin Regulation in Citrus Fruits

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Researchers have identified a citrus chimera with distinctive tissue origins and carotenoid profiles. It is discovered that fruit tissues develop from all three cell layers but in different proportions. A key transcription factor, MYB107, regulates β‐cryptoxanthin production by directly activating carotenoid biosynthesis genes, explaining why some ...

Developments in plant breeding for improved nutritional quality of soya beans II. Anti-nutritional factors [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
Nutritional value of most plant materials is limited by the presence of numerous naturally occurring compounds which interfere with nutrient digestion and absorption.

Effects of a late supper on digestion and the absorption of dietary carbohydrates in the following morning

open access: yesJournal of Physiological Anthropology, 2013
BackgroundOur previous experiment showed that the light intensity exposed on the subjects during evening time had no effect in the following morning on the efficiency of the digestion and absorption of dietary carbohydrates ingested at a usual suppertime.

Draper‐ATG3 Interaction Positively Regulates Autophagy to Mediate Silk Gland Degradation in Bombyx mori

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Draper is evolutionarily conserved across most insect species. Loss of Draper inhibits autophagy activation, delaying middle silk gland degradation in the silkworm during metamorphosis. Draper interacts with autophagy ‐ related protein 3 (ATG3) to orchestrate autophagosome formation—a process essential for silk gland degradation during the larval‐pupal

Unlocking the prebiotic carbohydrates: Insights into the types, preparation, health benefits and future utilizations of selected Indonesian exotic fruit seeds as a potential source of prebiotics

open access: yesFood Chemistry: X
The human gastrointestinal tract, particularly the colon, is densely populated with microflora, primarily Bifidobacteria and Lactobacilli that are responsible for maintaining diet-based human health.

Megasphaera Elesdenii Dysregulates Colon Epithelial Homeostasis, Aggravates Colitis‐Associated Tumorigenesis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A fecal microbial meta‐analysis reveals that Megasphaera is highly abundant in the Asian population with IBD and CRC. M. elsdenii reshapes colonic immunity by triggering DC cell‐mediated Th1 and Th17 inflammation. M. elsdenii and M. elsdenii‐enriched microbiota exacerbate colonic inflammation and tumorigenesis in AOM/DSS mice.

Objectively-Measured Physical Activity and Sedentary Time are Differentially Related to Dietary Fat and Carbohydrate Intake in Children

open access: yesFrontiers in Public Health, 2018
Background: Research on the clustering of physical activity, sedentary, and dietary intake behaviors in children has relied on retrospective and parent-report measures, which may obscure true associations.

Unweighted Unifrac is a theoretically better measure for dietary and cardiometabolic data [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The objective of this report was to compare unweighted and weighted Unifrac statistical methods and decide which method is best for analyzing dietary and cardiometabolic data.
