Release of nutrients and exorphins during in vitro static gastrointestinal digestion of spaghetti from durum wheat [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Consumption of wheat-derived products has been linked with significant nutritional and health impacts such as the management of glycaemic index and the onset of immunological reactions.

Screening and epitope characterization of Nidogen‐2‐specific nanobodies

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Camel immunization and phage display were employed to generate high‐affinity VHH nanobodies against Nidogen‐2. After library construction, biopanning, ELISA screening, sequencing, and recombinant expression, selected nanobodies were purified and characterized, leading to the preliminary exploration of a nanobody‐based sandwich ELISA for specific ...

The application of in vitro digestion to herbs (Experimental) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022

Large‐scale bidirectional arrayed genetic screens identify OXR1 and EMC4 as modifiers of αSynuclein aggregation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Activation of the mitochondrial protein OXR1 increases pSyn129 αSynuclein aggregation by lowering ATP levels and altering mitochondrial membrane potential, particularly in response to MSA‐derived fibrils. In contrast, ablation of the ER protein EMC4 enhances autophagic flux and lysosomal clearance, broadly reducing α‐synuclein aggregates.

In vitro digestion and fermentation behaviors of polysaccharides from Choerospondias axillaris fruit and its effect on human gut microbiota

open access: yesCurrent Research in Food Science
Choerospondias axillaris fruit has attracted more and more attention due to its various pharmacological activities, which are rich in polysaccharides. This study investigated the in vitro saliva-gastrointestinal digestion and fecal fermentation behaviors

Breakdown of Solid Foods During in Vitro Gastric Digestion [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
Food breakdown during gastric digestion influences gastric emptying, satiety, and nutrient bioaccessibility. However, the engineering design of foods for targeted breakdown has remained a challenge.

Suppression of lung adenocarcinoma migration through organelle alkalization by human lactoferrin – albumin fusion

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This paper reveals how human lactoferrin–albumin fusion (hLF‐HSA) potently suppresses lung adenocarcinoma cell migration. hLF‐HSA upregulates NHE7, leading to Golgi alkalization, disruption of the Golgi secretome, downregulation of MMP1, and reversal of EMT. These findings suggest a novel Golgi‐targeting strategy to suppress cancer cell migration.

A first step towards a consensus static in vitro model for simulating full-term infant digestion [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
In vitro alternatives to clinical trials are used for studying human food digestion. For simulating infant digestion, only a few models, lacking physiological relevance, are available.

Identifying transcription factors controlling the basal expression of human MRP4 highlights a substantial role for Sp1

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The MRP4 transporter exports several drugs and signaling molecules. Here, we identified key promoter elements regulating basal MRP4 expression. Using reporter assays, we defined a conserved region with essential Sp1 and contributory Ets sites, which controlled basal MRP4 expression.
