In the present investigation we studied the molecular mechanisms of the monodesmosidic saponin digitonin on natural and artificial membranes. We measured the hemolytic activity of digitonin on red blood cells (RBCs). Also different lipid membrane models (

Experimental substantiation of permeabilized hepatocytes model for investigation of mitochondria in situ respiration [PDF]
To verify experimentally the model of permeabilized hepatocytes, the degree of cell permeability was assessed using trypan blue and polarographycally determined cell respiration rate upon succinate (0.35 mM) and α-ketoglutarate (1 mM) oxidation ...

Isolation of Mycoplasma Membranes by Digitonin [PDF]
The cell membrane of Mycoplasma hominis was isolated by lysing the cells with digitonin. Electron microscopy and chemical, density gradient, and electrophoretic analyses of the membrane proteins showed the membranes so obtained, like those isolated by osmotic lysis, to be relatively free of cytoplasmic contaminants.

The activity of rat liver microsomal squalene epoxidase is inhibited effectively by digitonin. Concentrations of 0.8 to 1.2 mg/ml of digitonin cause total inhibition of microsomal (0.75 mg protein/ml) squalene epoxidase either in microsomes that were ...

Isolation and identification of phospholipids of bovine rhodopsin
Phospholipids present in digitonin solutions of bovine rhodopsin have been identified and assayed. Digitonin interferes with extraction of lipids by the usual methods; digitonin was therefore removed from the preparation as an ergosterol digitonide ...
