Direct Feedback Learning With Local Alignment Support

open access: yesIEEE Access
While backpropagation (BP) algorithm has been pivotal in enabling the success of modern deep learning technologies, it encounters challenges related to computational inefficiency and biological implausibility.

Systematic Direct Observation of Clinical Skills in the Clinical Year

open access: yesMedEdPORTAL, 2014
Introduction Direct observation of clinical skills is vital to medical student development. However, direct observation of medical students by faculty is often sporadic, undocumented, and unstandardized.

EDNRB‐dependent endothelin signaling reduces proliferation and promotes proneural‐to‐mesenchymal transition in gliomas

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Glioma cells mainly express the endothelin receptor EDNRB, while EDNRA is restricted to a perivascular tumor subpopulation. Endothelin signaling reduces glioma cell proliferation while promoting migration and a proneural‐to‐mesenchymal transition associated with poor prognosis. This pathway activates Ca2+, K+, ERK, and STAT3 signalings and is regulated

Nonlinear Output Feedback Control: An Analysis of Performance and Robustness [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
By considering a non-singular performance cost functional, observer backstepping designs and adaptive observer backstepping designs are compared to high-gain observer designs for an output feedback system and a parametric output feedback system.

Hippo pathway at the crossroads of stemness and therapeutic resistance in breast cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dysregulation of the Hippo pathway drives nuclear accumulation of YAP/TAZ, activating stemness‐related transcriptional programs that sustain breast cancer stemness and fuel therapeutic resistance across subtypes, underscoring Hippo signaling as a targetable vulnerability. Figure created and edited with BioRender.com.

Providing effective feedback on whole-phrase input in computer-assisted language learning [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
An important advantage of online assessment work is that answer data can be easily stored and later analysed with a view to establishing the efficacy of the assessment methodology.

Student perceptions of Grammarly, teacher’s indirect and direct feedback: Possibility of machine feedback

open access: yes, 2023
Empirical data on automated writing evaluation (AWE) has been accumulating over the past several years, but previous research has concentrated on the impact of using machine feedback alone, and only a little is known about how learners view the usage of ...

Feedback arcs and node hierarchy in directed networks [PDF]

open access: yesChinese Physics B, 2017
Directed networks such as gene regulation networks and neural networks are connected by arcs (directed links). The nodes in a directed network are often strongly interwound by a huge number of directed cycles, which lead to complex information-processing dynamics in the network and make it highly challenging to infer the intrinsic direction of ...

E2A selectively regulates TGF‐β–induced apoptosis in KRAS‐mutant non‐small cell lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Ability to induce apoptosis by TGF‐β is frequently lost in advanced lung adenocarcinoma despite intact TGF‐β signaling. We identify E2A as a mutant KRAS–dependent mediator of resistance to TGF‐β–induced apoptosis. TGF‐β induces E2A via SMAD3 in mutant KRAS cells, and E2A silencing restores apoptosis and enhances radiation response in cell lines ...

CD47 promotes mitogen‐activated protein kinase and epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition molecular programs to drive prometastatic phenotypes in non‐small cell lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Beyond its role in immune evasion, this study identified that CD47 drives tumor‐intrinsic signaling in non‐small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Transcriptomic profiling and functional studies revealed that CD47 regulates cell adhesion, migration, and metastasis through an ERK–EMT signaling axis.
