Circular RNA expression landscapes in myelodysplastic neoplasms: Associations with mutational signatures and disease progression

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In this explorative study, the abundance of circular RNA molecules in bone marrow stem cells was found to be elevated in patients with high‐risk myelodysplastic neoplasms, and to be associated with an increased risk of progression to acute myeloid leukemia.

Age-related changes in DNA methylation levels at CpG sites in bull spermatozoa and in vitro fertilization-derived blastocyst-stage embryos revealed by combined bisulfite restriction analysis

open access: yesThe Journal of Reproduction and Development, 2019
Age-associated methylation changes in genomic DNA have been recently reported in spermatozoa, and these changes can contribute to decline in fertility. In a previous study, we analyzed the genome-wide DNA methylation profiles of bull spermatozoa using a ...

The methylation landscape of giga-genome and the epigenetic timer of age in Chinese pine

open access: yesNature Communications, 2023
DNA methylation level declines during aging of mammals. Here, the authors report single-base resolution landscape of cytosine DNA methylation at different ages of Chinese pine and show that the global cytosine DNA methylation gradually increases as age ...

Self-reported pregnancy exposures and placental DNA methylation in the MARBLES prospective autism sibling study. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Human placenta is a fetal-derived tissue that offers a unique sample of epigenetic and environmental exposures present in utero. In the MARBLES prospective pregnancy study of high-risk younger siblings of children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD ...

Age-related DNA methylation and hemostatic factors [PDF]

open access: yesBlood, 2018
In this issue of Blood, a study by Ward-Caviness et al identifies a significant relationship between age-related DNA methylation changes and thrombotic risk in the elderly. They studied the relationship between hemostatic factors and 3 epigenetic measures of aging: extrinsic epigenetic age acceleration difference (EEAD), intrinsic epigenetic age ...

Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 increases metastatic potential and aggressiveness in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aldehyde dehydrogenase 1A1 (ALDH1A1) is a cancer stem cell marker in several malignancies. We established a novel epithelial cell line from rectal adenocarcinoma with unique overexpression of this enzyme. Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 led to increased invasive capacity and metastatic potential, the inhibition of proliferation activity, and ultimately ...

Exploring the Relationship of Relative Telomere Length and the Epigenetic Clock in the LipidCardio Cohort [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Telomere length has been accepted widely as a biomarker of aging. Recently, a novel candidate biomarker has been suggested to predict an individual’s chronological age with high accuracy: The epigenetic clock is based on the weighted DNA methylation ...

EDNRB‐dependent endothelin signaling reduces proliferation and promotes proneural‐to‐mesenchymal transition in gliomas

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Glioma cells mainly express the endothelin receptor EDNRB, while EDNRA is restricted to a perivascular tumor subpopulation. Endothelin signaling reduces glioma cell proliferation while promoting migration and a proneural‐to‐mesenchymal transition associated with poor prognosis. This pathway activates Ca2+, K+, ERK, and STAT3 signalings and is regulated

Continuous Aging of the Human DNA Methylome Throughout the Human Lifespan. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2013
DNA methylation plays an important role in development of disease and the process of aging. In this study we examine DNA methylation at 476,366 sites throughout the genome of white blood cells from a population cohort (N = 421) ranging in age from 14 to ...
