Strand asymmetry influences mismatch resolution during a single-strand annealing
Background Biases of DNA repair can shape the nucleotide landscape of genomes at evolutionary timescales. The molecular mechanisms of those biases are still poorly understood because it is difficult to isolate the contributions of DNA repair from those ...

Downregulation of both mismatch repair and non-homologous end-joining pathways in hypoxic brain tumour cell lines [PDF]
Glioblastoma, a grade IV astrocytoma, has a poor survival rate in part due to ineffective treatment options available. These tumours are heterogeneous with areas of low oxygen levels, termed hypoxic regions.

EGFR inhibits DNA mismatch repair [PDF]
Safeguarding the integrity of the genome should not be left to chance. Indeed, all organisms have highly effective mechanisms to detect and remove errors and lesions in DNA. DNA mismatch repair (MMR) serves as the final safeguard in assuring the fidelity of DNA replication from bacteria to humans and backstops the nucleotide selection and exonuclease ...

We recently found that DNA repair-related gene expression could be altered by reprogramming as well as the increased expression of genes that accurately convey genomic information, such as homologous recombination (HR) and mismatch repair (MMR), and the ...

DNA mismatch repair and infertility [PDF]
To highlight the significance of the abnormal DNA repair mechanism in male infertility.DNA repair defects cause a variety of spermatogenic defects in mouse models. Evidence is accumulating to demonstrate the importance of DNA repair defects in human nonobstructive azoospermia.

An Msh3 ATPase domain mutation has no effect on MMR function
Objective To demonstrate that the Msh3 ATPase domain is required for DNA mismatch repair and tumor suppression in a murine model. Results The DNA mismatch repair proteins are members of the ABC family of ATPases.

DNA mismatch repair (MMR) corrects replication errors in newly synthesized DNA. It also has an antirecombination action on heteroduplexes that contain similar but not identical sequences. This review focuses on the genetics and development of MMR and not on the latest biochemical mechanisms.

Expression of the DNA mismatch repair proteins hMLH1 and hPMS2 in normal human tissues. [PDF]
hMLH1 and hPMS2 are part of the DNA mismatch repair complex. Mutations in these genes have been linked to hereditary non-polyposis colon cancer; they also occur in a variety of sporadic cancers. Western blot analysis and immunohistochemistry demonstrated

Statistical evaluation and biological interpretation of non-random abundance in the E. coli K-12 genome of tetra- and pentanucleotide sequences related to VSP DNA mismatch repair [PDF]
The abundance of all tetra- and pentanucleotide sequences is calculated for a set of DNA sequence data comprising 767,393 nucleotides of the E. coli K-12 genome. Observed frequencies are compared to those expected from a Markov chain prediction algorithm.
