Dissipation, noise and DCC domain formation

open access: yes, 1999
We investigate the effect of friction on domain formation in disoriented chiral condensate. We solve the equation of motion of the linear sigma model, in the Hartree approximation, including a friction and a white noise term.

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Spin domain formation in spinor Bose-Einstein condensation

open access: yes, 1999
The spatial structure of the spinor Bose-Einstein condensates with the spin degrees of freedom is analyzed based on the generalized Gross-Pitaevskii equation (GP) in the light of the present spin domain experiment on m_F=\pm 1, and 0 of the hyperfine ...

Cloning of p57KIP2, a cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor with unique domain structure and tissue distribution.

open access: yesGenes & Development, 1995
Progression through the cell cycle is catalyzed by cyclin-dependent kinases (CDKs) and is negatively controlled by CDK inhibitors (CDIs). We have isolated a new member of the p21CIP1/p27KIP1 CDI family and named it p57KIP2 to denote its apparent ...

Inhibiting stearoyl‐CoA desaturase suppresses bone metastatic prostate cancer by modulating cellular stress, mTOR signaling, and DNA damage response

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Bone metastasis in prostate cancer (PCa) patients is a clinical hurdle due to the poor understanding of the supportive bone microenvironment. Here, we identify stearoyl‐CoA desaturase (SCD) as a tumor‐promoting enzyme and potential therapeutic target in bone metastatic PCa.

Possible Electronic Structure of Domain Walls in Mott Insulators

open access: yes, 1996
We discuss the quantum numbers of domain walls of minimal length induced by doping Mott insulators, carefully distinguishing between holon and hole walls.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Bridging the gap: Multi‐stakeholder perspectives of molecular diagnostics in oncology

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Although molecular diagnostics is transforming cancer care, implementing novel technologies remains challenging. This study identifies unmet needs and technology requirements through a two‐step stakeholder involvement. Liquid biopsies for monitoring applications and predictive biomarker testing emerge as key unmet needs. Technology requirements vary by

Modulation of phase boundary and domain structures to engineer strain properties in BNT-based ferroelectrics

open access: yesJournal of Advanced Ceramics
Bismuth sodium titanate (BNT) ceramics exhibit outstanding strain responses but are unfavorable for application in high-sensitivity displacement actuators due to the large negative strain resulting from irreversible changes in their phase transition and ...
