Delivery, Persistence, and Functional Response of dsRNA in Acyrthosiphon pisum: Progress and Remaining Barriers. [PDF]

open access: yesArch Insect Biochem Physiol
Aphids efficiently ingest dsRNA, which persists in the midgut but is rapidly degraded by aphid nucleases when unprotected. Chitosan and LDH‐based formulations improve dsRNA stability, triggering RNAi activation. Despite this protection, gene knockdown remains variable, though the RNAi machinery is consistently activated.

RNA degradomics and proteomics reveal the mechanism of dsProsβ1‐mediated proteasome targeting in Psylliodes chrysocephala

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
RNA degradomics revealed dsProsβ1‐derived siRNA‐mediated mRNA cleavage events, mainly at uracil‐guanine and adenine‐adenine pairs. Proteasome inhibition via dsProsβ1 increased mitochondrial and cytoskeletal proteins while reducing translation‐related and mRNA‐binding proteins.

Synthetic polymer nanocarrier enhances dsRNA stability but not RNAi efficacy in Brassicogethes aeneus

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Experimental setup for dsRNA feeding in Brassicogethes aeneus to evaluate the effect of a synthetic polymer nanocarrier on RNAi efficiency. The experiment assessed whether the nanocarrier enhances RNAi after oral dsRNA delivery. (a) Stability of dsRNA–nanocarrier complexes was tested in simulated gut conditions. (b) Gene expression of αCOP and dre4 was

Transcriptomic resources and functional validation of RNAi in the cabbage seedpod weevil, Ceutorhynchus obstrictus

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Transcriptome sequencing of Ceutorhynchus obstrictus revealed RNA interference (RNAi) targets; double‐stranded RNA microinjection reduced transcript levels and increased mortality, with αCOP and Rop showing strongest lethal effects, indicating promising RNAi‐based pest control candidates.

From knowledge to action: the importance of characterizing herbicide resistance mechanisms for implementing management strategies

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
This review bridges the gap between understanding resistance mechanisms and applying them in weed management, highlighting how mechanistic insights reveal vulnerabilities that can guide more effective control strategies. Abstract Herbicide resistance remains one of the most intensively studied areas in weed science because of its direct consequences ...

Exogenous dsRNA made accessible to Dicer by two eukaryotic RNA-dependent RNA polymerases in Paramecium tetraurelia

open access: yesCommunications Biology
Discrimination of self from non-self RNA is a critical requirement for any cell to respond to infections and to maintain cellular integrity. We report novel functions for two RNA-dependent RNA polymerases (RDRs) in Paramecium.

Inhibition of Hop Stunt Viroid by Exogenous Double-Stranded RNA in Micropropagated Grapevine Plantlets [PDF]

open access: yesThe Plant Pathology Journal
Hop stunt viroid (HSVd) infection reduces grapevine (Vitis vinifera) yield and quality, leading to significant economic losses. Conventional methods for producing virus-free plantlets often fail to completely eliminate viroids, necessitating alternative ...

The first RNAi‐based biopesticide approved in the United States: regulatory implications for the European Union – the case of Ledprona (Calantha™)

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
The approval of the RNA interference‐based biopesticide Ledprona (Calantha™) in the USA marks a milestone for RNA‐based crop protection. We discuss the regulatory implications for the European Union, highlighting opportunities, challenges, and the need for adapted risk assessment frameworks for RNA‐based plant protection products.
