Improved Quantification of Prostaglandins in Biological Samples by Optimizing Simultaneously the Relationship Eicosanoid/Internal-Standard and Using Liquid Chromatography Tandem Mass Spectrometry [PDF]
Although a wide variety of articles on quantification of eicosanoids by using internal standards are published every year, little has been done on how much internal standard should be added.

Disrupting CSPG‐Driven Microglia–Astrocyte Crosstalk Enables Scar‐Free Repair in Spinal Cord Injury
This study identifies CSPGs as key drivers of glial scar maturation after spinal cord injury by reprogramming microglial metabolism and inducing astrocyte fibrosis. To address this, a reactive oxygen species‐responsive, reactive astrocyte‐targeted ChABC gene delivery system is designed to locally degrade CSPGs, precisely disrupt maladaptive glial ...

This study identifies Pirin (PIR), an iron‐binding protein, as a critical ferroptosis suppressor in colorectal cancer through lipid membrane remodeling. PIR, induced by NRF2 during ferroptotic stress, transcriptionally regulates PLA2G4A to shift cellular lipid composition away from ferroptosis‐permissive polyunsaturated phospholipids.

The red macroalga Agarophyton chilensis is a well-known producer of eicosanoids such as hydroxyeicosatetraenoic acids, but the alga produces almost no prostaglandins, unlike the closely related A. vermiculophyllum.

Arachidonic acid 5-lipoxygenase (ALOX5) is the key enzyme in the biosynthesis of pro-inflammatory leukotrienes. We recently created knock-in mice (Alox5-KI) which express an arachidonic acid 15-lipoxygenating Alox5 mutant instead of the 5-lipoxygenating ...

Urinary eicosanoid metabolites in HIV-infected women with central obesity switching to raltegravir: an analysis from the women, integrase, and fat accumulation trial. [PDF]
Chronic inflammation is a hallmark of HIV infection. Eicosanoids reflect inflammation, oxidant stress, and vascular health and vary by sex and metabolic parameters. Raltegravir (RAL) is an HIV-1 integrase inhibitor that may have limited metabolic effects.

Trauma or infection can result in tissue damage, which needs to be repaired in a well‐orchestrated manner to restore tissue function and homeostasis. Lipid mediators derived from arachidonic acid (termed eicosanoids) play central and versatile roles in ...

This study demonstrates that BNNT exposure disrupts lipid homeostasis in bronchial epithelial cell cultures and activates eicosanoid lipid biosynthesis, producing inflammatory lipid mediators like leukotrienes. These effects are more pronounced in asthmatic cell cultures compared to healthy ones.

Malassezia are common components of human skin, and as the dominant human skin eukaryotic microbe, they take part in complex microbe–host interactions. Other phylogenetically related fungi (including within Ustilagomycotina) communicate with their plant ...

Three-year tracking of fatty acid composition of plasma phospholipids in healthy children [PDF]
Objectives: The fatty acid composition of plasma phospholipids reflects the dietary fatty acid intake as well as endogenous turnover. We aimed at investigating the potential tracking of plasma phospholipid fatty acid composition in children that ...
